Do they realize that there are other destinations that the ships can go to?

Cruise lines will not stop going to Mexico over a $42 charge that will be passed on.

Consumers will pay it because cruises to Mexico are still dirt cheap.

Why would they impose a fee on someone that is paying to come spend money in their country. How does this make sense?

It’s free money for them. Those ships will be full as they always have been and people will still spend additional tourism dollars when they arrive at a port of call. This is retaliatory. It makes total sense with what has been threatened. They’d be dumb not to do this and there will certainly be more of it coming. Until Americans prove that they won’t travel to Mexico on a cruise this is a win for them.

With all due respect, you’re being incredibly ignorant. This is per port per person. Many of these cruises are $500/ head total for 4-5 day trips. You are talking about charging a family of 4 that paid $2,000 for 4 nights, $168 just to get off the boat and walk around Mexico. They’ll stay on the boat. That’s $336 for a family of 4 to visit both ports on a 4 night Mexican cruise. It’s not a small amount of money at all and absolutely will have a short term and long term affect.

There’s already taxes involved and I don’t think charging per head is a bad idea, but $42 is laughably high. Something like $5 and maybe $10 would be somewhat reasonable.

You retarda aren’t some economic geniuses. People would take hire cost on avocados and tequila i"

It's retards-not retarda. It's higher not hire. You in particular should not be calling others retards when you clearly are a challenged individual.

Same. Zero desire to go there. They'd have to pay ME...and a lot.

While I completely agree with you, I was trying to think of other similar situations. Disney Parks, LSU games, concerts all charge crazy parking fees just to come in and spend money, on top of the tickets to enter. Doesn't seem to deter their business. I guess we will see if Mexico has the same level of draw in.

A few years ago many ships abandoned Sitka, Alaska because of a head tax. Now every port has one.

Ours is about $8/head and has to be used for the visitor industry. So we have a lot of really crappy art.

Fair enough but the cruisers can choose not to disembark at Mexico. I know I wouldn't.

Never understood why anyone goes on cruises period, let alone to Mexico.

$42 for the privilege of undrinkable water and cartel violence. No thanks.

What the hell are you talking about?

Are you actually offended that I knocked Mexico?

I've been there, and I think it sucks.

You're a nimrod, btw. What a stupid arse comment.
