I know Formosa (sp?) Is talking about building a plant the size of CF industries on the St. James/Dville line.
They are also talking about 4 laning hey 3127 all the way to Gross Tete.
Word is, Formosa said they wanted the ink dry on the 4 lane expansion before they would commit.
Dville would actually grow if that hwy and plant came in to works.

That sounds awesome.

Louisiana could use some good news now.

I also wouldn’t open anything that big there until 3127 was extended north beyond D’ville.

Is this tongue in cheek? The petrochemical industry has greatly contributed to Louisiana being a literal wasteland.

Louisiana needs to diversify. Petrochemical shouldn’t be the only opportunity.

And it’s shitty government, crappy infrastructure, bad education system, and terrible tax structure prevents that.

It’s amazing to think that only about 15 years ago there was virtually no domestic MEOH production because natural gas pricing was over $2.50/mcf.

There is a huge MEOH facility right across the street from this one. It was shutdown around 2001 for this exact reason.

Exactly. We know those in charge will not do anything to help the situation, so to me, getting these facilities with pretty good paying jobs is better than nothing. If not for this industry, most of La would look like north Mississippi.

Bear in mind, I’ve been retired for a few years.
As I recall, the old Borden facility had a MEOH unit and Air Liquide (?) had one, both in Geismar.
Is one of these the one you are referring to ?
There were 2 over in Plaquemine, Georgia Gulf and Ashland and one down river toward NOLA. I’m sure the Methanex plants are producing more than the older plants combined.
MEOH is an interesting product... I sold a lot of it “back in the day”.

Formosa announced a $9B+ facility in St. James, which is a HUGE project.

YCI Methanol already under construction in St. James, as much as $3B when it’s all said and done.

Wanhua recently announced a $1B MDI plant, also in St. James.

Shintech announced ANOTHER $1.5B expansion in Plaquemine.

Westlake expanding in Geismar. Monsanto expanding in Luling, the list goes on. And if the LNG market goes the right way there are billions in additional LNG export facilities currently on-hold. That’s without even talking about what’s going on in Lake Charles right now.

Cant wait for the traffic on 73 between river road and the interstate to get 4 times worse than it already is. We desperately need to do something about that

Not to mention another big oxygen plant more than likely.

They tried to do something about it and it took 2.5 years to add a single turn lane. With that section of road being more developed now (4 new subdivisions and 4 new centers), this drive is going to suck way into the future

It would have been sweet if all this plant construction and accompanying jobs would have been in ADDITION a normal growing economy.
