Metairie Mardi Gras, like Metairie itself, is now irrelevant.

Watching the Channel 4 crew act stupid at various locations on Tuesday morning. There is nobody in Metairie. It's dead. Somebody remind me why suburban Mardi Gras exists in the first place, other than your parents' and grandparents' dislike of black people and desire to separate themselves from "the city." Spare me the "family friendly" argument. I see plenty of families uptown and downtown.
Places like Metairie have much bigger problems on the horizon. The Millennials have (rightly I think) rejected cookie-cutter suburbia as their model. The city, with all its problems, is hip and hot again.

The worm will turn again. It's cyclical.

Yes, houses with yards and not having to fear for your bodily safety when you go outside are rapidly becoming things of the past.

Well, maybe so. But I have two college students living in my suburban house and they don't give two craps about houses and yards.

So they should just cancel Mardi Gras? What about Halloween, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving? Just cancel them because of the other problems the city is facing?
Makes sense

that's going to dissolve in 2016 almost assuredly

LOLS, do you live in either parish? Better question, do you pay taxes, rely on police and fire dept's, enjoy drivable roads, prefer a non corrupt conservative local .gov, etc...???

Because they're not spending their own money on way over priced downtown apartments

You're right. It's not as big as it once was. It wasn't that long ago when it would be packed. Everything goes in cycles.

NOLA parades are family friendly, and parking is not easier in Metairie.

Live in Jefferson, work in downtown Nola.
Jeff Parish president John Young was on TV a few months ago hawking the redevelopment of Fat City because they need to do something to bring the young people back to Jefferson Parish, because young people want a more urban environment, etc. Fat City for chrissake!! That's what you're going to offer them?
JP officials are worried about their future tax base. I guarantee it.

I don't know if you're ranting about Metairie or Metairie Mardi Gras.
When I was a kid my parents would often take us to Metairie parades Bc uptown is a PITA. We'd hit up the Panchos on Vets then walk over to the parade. It was mostly families. If you're drinking or college aged then obviously don't go to Metairie. And don't live in Metairie either. Some folks enjoy the amenities of suburbia, esp a suburb so close to the city. There's little difference between Lakeview and Metairie but I bet you don't look down on Lakeview people.

Because the Parade doesn't start until now and they're in Fat City...
and it's pretty cold outside...

Uptown parade is way better than Metairie. Done my share of both. The family argument is total bs. Uptown is beautiful and family friendly. Metairie is concrete and shopping centers.

Prices, taxes, and crime were my deciding factor. I still live about a mile and a half from the 17th Street canal, but in Metairie. Right across the canal, my house would've been $100k more
