Metairie is a city grid system with old houses and small lots that’s expensive and bad schools. That isn’t an opinion. It doesn’t make sense to me to choose that as your suburb

Yeah that’s a strange example. It’s a pretty good restaurant too.
And I think having old bars and restaurants in the hood is pretty damn nice.

It was an example how Metairie seems to have no zoning
Residential areas run right into commercial areas and major streets

That is quite literally the definition of opinion.
Schools are irrelevant to most of Metairie, almost everyone goes private but there’s some good public’s if you choose.
Old houses aren’t a bad thing. All those cookie cutter subdivisions on the Northshore are going to be old one day. Lots of old houses in Metairie are being torn down / renovated. It just takes some money and vision.

Their schooling bad. You can look at any rating system you want
The city is on a grid like system
It is expensive for a suburb
The houses are on very small lots for a suburb
None of the above is an opinion, the below is an opinion
Compare Metairie and Kenner to Hoover and Mountain Brook
Compare Metairie and Kenner to Franklin, Tn
Compare Metairie to Marietta, Ga
I have always said Nola has the absolute worst suburbs for the southern major cities

I absolutely hate the idea of my future children being able to get a sandwich and a bag of chips made by some elderly Italians in my neighborhood. Who would want something so awful when you could drive them to Jason’s deli?

$300k on the northshore goes a lot further with all the new construction available

For sure, but it’s still not “expensive” by any stretch
The median listing price was 370k in May per realtor dot Com. That’s less than the national average.
Actually expensive suburbs are like 750k.

If anyone is interest, look up zip codes 70005 and 70121 and compare their property value and household income to the rest of the state.
Posted on 6/23/24 at 10:31 am to GreatLakesTiger24
Median sales price of $175 a foot for homes built in the 60s with no lot size is expensive
