To my delight, an archive of AOL message board posts during Spurrier's Reign of Terror (only Gator fans seem to like that phrase) has been preserved. I had the originals until around 2015, but they were always digital, and can never be lost.
If you want to kill some time, look at SEC Football as I did in 1996.

He leads Auburn to an undefeated season for the first time in 36 years but now some fans will accept nothing less. Do you think the high school recruits can't pick up on this????

I've lived in Tally since 89, IRL I knew folks in the TGRRT like GrayGator and RepMarty.
Their militant thoughts always bothered me. The 97 rhetoric you read was just the beginning of a war here in Tally.
Once Spurrier and then Bowden left, it calmed down.
That said, #1vs#2 at Doak for this Tally Gator would be fine, one more time, cause that was fun.
