I have a 2010 C300 with 75k on it. Ive worked on a bunch of different makes of vehicle and its by far the highest quality, best engineered vehicle Ive ever put my hands on. Understand that doesnt necessarily equate to reliability but adds to the driving enjoyment and convenience.
BTW, Benz diesels are generally very good. Their diesels have always been their hallmark engines. However, if I was to only own one vehicle it would be a Honda or Toyota with a large 4 cylinder.

I know the gas engine version has had some known issues with the balance shaft between certain year models. Just in case you start looking at those, check this out first and be sure what you look at isn't part of the bad production run: LINK
For the CDI, see this: LINK
However, as someone else mentioned, the maintenance costs are just asinine. I'm amused that anyone would actually willingly attach themselves to that garbage.

Just get a Honda Odyssey.
This. We're on our second one now. Great vehicle for what you need.
Maybe consider a Ford Flex? Great interior space, some very nice features, and surprisingly has exceptional reliability. You'll find them for sale at any given time with over 250k miles on them and still purring like a kitten. EcoBoost models are badass, but I'd only buy that if you were going brand new.

My company GL was the biggest piece of shite I have ever had...

That's one ugly minivan...
At least buy an attractive one if you must go the van route.

The vagina of the automobile industry.

It's a nine year old MB van that is WAYYY out of any warranty.
That being said, they have a smooth ride and are comfortable. This one just happens to be old af.

No, but my wife is. It would be her vehicle to replace the Odyssey that currently has 200k on the odometer.

With AWD and diesel engine. If I could find an AWD diesel Sienna or Odyssey, I would probably opt for that.

that basically gives you all the look of a minivan without any of the practicality

The problem is repair costs are insane. OP, call the dealership and get a price on an oil change. I'm guessing its going to be $400. So keep that kind of stuff in mind.

A minivan would look like a fearri next to that thing.
Buy the ugly benz then get the g-wagon kit for it

It has all the dorkiness of a minivan with none of the utility. Look at those rear doors. You'll be parking at the back of the lot unless you want the kids to ding the car next to you. 3rd row legroom is awful. And it's 9 years old. If your interest is derived from the 3 point star, get an old GL diesel - they're getting cheap, too.
