That's a blanket statement. I don't agree with it because I'm beating alcoholism's arse day in and day out like a red-headed step child, and I have my life back. I have myself back. My mom and dad have their son back. They CAN, if they choose to become better. It's a conscious choice every addict has to make. You have to realize that life is precious, that yours along with each member of your family's life is ending one day at a time,and none of us know how soon it's set to expire. Addicts are selfish. I know I damn sure was. You have to get tired of living life like a piece of collosal shite. It took me losing my sister and having my family hold me at arm's length to realize that error of my ways. I have zero desire to ever do that to myself and my family again. It sounds like her husband is co-signing on her bullshite. She won't get anywhere if he continues to do that.

It shouldn't have to be said, but the kids shouldn't have to be treated like a bunch of kids by some adults. They are completely innocent.
Someone in your family needs to sack up and figure out a way to approach her husband in order to find away to get her help.
It sucks for the kids that the adults in their family are a bunch of idiots who have no emotional intelligence.

Good point. And if the OP is truthful this dude needs to hire the best attorney he can afford, file for divorce, and sue for full custody. For him to get up the nerve to do that is going to require a supportive family and friends.

The quickest way for her to achieve sobriety if that is even possible is for her to hit absolute rock bottom as soon as possible. He should lawyer up, take the kids, and run.

Family court is most certainly biased in favor of the mother. BUT he should not make the mistake of letting this fact deter him. I made that mistake. I thought my son's mom had the upper hand and there was no way I could win. So I initially took the strategy of avoiding court at all cost. This was a horrible mistake, and I lost years of time with my son as a result. When I changed to the opposite strategy of going to court and arguing my case, it was not even close, I walked out with a shxt eating grin and her with her tail between her legs. Why? Two reasons 1) my lawyer is better than hers and 2) the evidence was on my side.
If there is evidence of what the OP says, and he gets a good lawyer, he will win.

Living with any addict is rough man. My ex was bulimic and that led to a dependency on benzodiazepines. People do weird shite when they’re trying to keep their family together. I err on the side of extending grace to everyone except the addict themselves.
Also, he’ll still get fricked in family court when the inevitable Halle s. fricking sucks but that’s the way it is.
