After being wrongfully convicted 25 years ago, two men from my hometown were released on murder charges today after a podcast brought light to their story. If you’re a crime podcast guy check this story out. It’s called “Proof” and it’s covered in the first season. One of the producers has a second podcast called “Undisclosed” as well. The crazy part is they cover another possible wrongful conviction in the same county involving the same officer.

Can’t imagine what’s going through their minds right now. First night out of jail since they were 17 years old.

Story in local paper here

I truly don’t know how people who lock innocent people away in a cage live with themselves. That guilt would be insurmountable to me.

You don’t give any actual details here but “innocent” and having a conviction overturned are separate things

Now the detectives should get 25 years. How someone could allow another human being, knowingly innocent, to serve that kind of time. Scum of the earth.

Basically involves poor, punk kids. Kids were playing Russian roulette. Kid shot himself. Investigators make up evidence and threaten a witness to lie on the stand. They frame it as a murder and pin it on the kids.

Highlights are threatening a witness with losing custody of her kids if she doesn’t lie, “losing” evidence only for it to turn back up 4 months later, a dirty coroner, as well as investigators spreading rumors to create probable cause to convict both men.

Either they’re mentally sick, ambitiously twisted, or just doing what they think is right based on available information.

90+% of Lawyers & Judges are Narcissistic, Sociopaths that go to school to learn how to lie really good, they have no soul nor conscious and love flexing their power & playing God.

No offense to the less 10% of Legal Profession folks out there that are into family law, title work etc…. Some of those folks are good/decent humans.

Or doing what they think is right based on their own prejudices. Plenty of examples on this board over the years where an innocent person gets exonerated and the “society would still be better off with him behind bars” crowd opens up.

I've learned from the experiences of others that you do not talk to the cops at their place without a lawyer even if you're innocent. Don't even buy into the we want to question you downtown. Tell the detective you can ask me questions right here with my witnesses.

Well, I can assure you out of all the law school classes there is definitely not one that teaches students to lie really good.

One story like this should be enough for anyone to be against the death penalty.

Most have zero guilt. Your typical prosecutor and judge are career driven sociopaths who can never admit to making a mistake. Why do you think they almost always oppose motions for DNA testing or new trials when additional evidence comes out? They value the finality of a verdict more than its accuracy.

There was nothing in any article I could find about "lost" evidence. Is the insinuation that this was evidence manufactured and presented later? In researching the case, there appeared to be circumstantial evidence that pointed to the two men being guilty of murder. The neurosurgeon who treated the victim indicated he saw no powder burns or visible gunpowder residue on the victim's temple. This was corroborated by the coroner. According to the neurosurgeon, the bullet entered at a 45 degree angle, which is unusual for a suicide. A witness saw one of the two men running away from the scene. The other man made incriminating statements to the victim's family.

DAs and judges are elected politicians. They don’t care about truth or justice, just want to win the next election

Innocent people die in whatever scenario you want to create.

Take for example the piece of shite recently released on the northshore who slaughtered the priest and woman.

A weak justice system claims innocents as well.

This detail takes some of the air out of your outrage balloon.

I’m not saying that the kids were guilty of murder, but playing Russian roulette with a group contains lots of culpability for all involved.

Hello Lawyer, what part of my comment is incorrect?

I’ve got another one for you, Why is Washington DC such a cesspool?

It’s run mostly by lawyers, prove me wrong….

Why is New Orleans & Louisiana one of the the most litigious city & states in the country? Of Which, we have some of the highest vehicle insurance around? Because we allow lawyers to lobby BR to keep their money train going with the Morris Barts of the world.

Why is La. & Nola some of the worst anti-business environments in the country?

Because it’s run by crooked lawyers!

Lawyers have their hands in every bit of society these days, huge reason for our collapse. You can’t even take a dump without needing a contract to protect your arse these days.

They sit in DC, BR and capitals across this country and put their fangs into the tax base crating law after law after law, red-tape and more rules and regulations. Allowing and indicing vexatious litigation and Barratry.

You wanna known how I know these things? Because I’m a small business owner & go thru it every single day. Need a contract for a contract for another contract. And the contracts are usually never good enough. I digress from the OP, but it’s all part of the same vacuous cycle.

It’s all pointed to send people into court to fight it all out. Then once the court has gotten it’s fees, the law firms have gotten paid, the Judge says “y’all settle this, before I get mad” on other words, he doesn’t want to make a ruling & wants to remain on the thin line in the middle for his next political term or future political career.

Or in this OP case, the justice system is set up to be incentivized to keep people in jail for their money schemes. Most instances, the jail is getting Federal and State dollars for every inmate for every day.

The rules are that someone must stay in jail a certain period of time to get that 1st days “rent”.

Those idiots at OPP, JP, STP etc will purposely detain a minimal offense arrested person for extra time just to get more money, all the while, the person could have and should have been released once booked, they keep them extra time to get extra money or to get that “1st days rent”

Who makes the deals?
Who makes the laws?
Who’s usually in on the “backend deals” brother-in-law deals?

Always the lawyers, the same ones that took courses to learn how to “SPIN” as you call it aka lie, fabricate, twist and turn.

Thanks for identifying yourself, lol and have a good day! Nothing personal, I do believe there is obvious need for “Law”, but it’s been abused in many cases, and in todays world, In states such as La., it’s unbearable for businesses to operate due to our twisted system.

And I apologize if you’re one of the good ones, I truly do. Have a nice day!
