MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - A funeral home off Lamar Avenue is offering a different service from its competitors. You can drive up, say your final goodbyes to your loved ones, and you don't even have to get out the car.

Ryan Bernard, owner of R. Bernard funeral home, says he got the idea from a funeral home in California. His main goal is to make it more convenient for families who are already dealing with losing a loved one.

Bernard wants his funeral home to stand out from the rest, so his family business is offering drive-thru services.

"Say a family has a visitation from 4 to 6. We would put their loved one in the drive-thru viewing area say around 1 o'clock and they will have a drive-thru viewing from 1 to 2:30,” says Bernard.

The service is free for customers with funeral packages, and so far four families have tried it out.

"We've been getting rave reviews. We've had people actually just pull up drive-thru just had a curiosity they didn't even know the person who passed.”

Can they just put up a webcam so I don't have to leave my house?

Since the deceased was probably killed in a drive-by shooting it seems fitting

It's been there since the late 70's at least.

Is the one still open in New Roads? That one has been there since the early 80's

I mean, if people actually use it, then whatever.

But this seems incredibly weird.

There's no way in fricking hell I would set my dad up at a drive through window for his wake/funeral.

"Tommy, you didn't even come to your own mother's funeral!"

"You don't know my life Sheila, I stopped by at the drive through for nearly 10 minutes that day."

I'm haunting anyone who does this when I'm dead. I want you to get your arse out the car and you better be wearing an ironed suit.

People used to dress better and act better at funeral homes, more respectful if you will. I was at a wake last night, was like a circus. I know, a celebration of life, but their are grieving family and friends, it's not a side show. I only saw 2 other men with a tie on.
