A year or two ago we went to Memphis for the St. Jude Marathon weekend. While waiting for our lunch, I was reading a local paper. One of the headlines was that Memphis had contacted NOLA about how to handle crime/violence. I couldn't help but think what the hell.

My wife is from Georgia and when she first moved to Oxford, which gets the Memphis news, she could not believe how many murders there were. She was terrified of Memphis.

It’s almost as if these cities with high crime, violence, murder, etc have something in common... hmmm

It's obvious. Those cities haven't banned guns yet.

I was going to Austin a few years ago and I wanted to go somewhere and my buddy told me not to go because it was a bad area. I went anyway and it was nicer than 95% of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Didn't have a single problem.

As horrible as Louisiana is, I'm happy it has made me not scared of everything that isn't brand new or hipster.

You obviously didn't read the post. The next day, someone was killed.

The places to avoid in BR are pretty clear....outside of those areas the crime rate and chances of becoming a statistic is probably in line with most places.
