What would possess someone to video a crime they themselves were committing? How in hell did they find out about the semen in the cupcakes? Maybe they videoed that too?

Bc he was invincible under Ard. He had been reported many times. Including when the cop with BRPD reported him being caught in bed in the middle of the night with his young stepdaughter. Ard did nothing and later said if it isn’t written down, it didn’t happen.

I thought he could deviate as well but it seems he can’t reduce it. She is getting mandatory life without parole..

LIVINGSTON, La. (WAFB) - A Livingston Parish jury has found Melanie Curtin guilty in the 2014 sexual assault of an unconscious woman. She was then taken away in handcuffs.

The jury found her guilty of the most serious possible charge of aggravated rape, which carries a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole or reduced sentencing.

The statute is what it is. But like I said, there is jurisprudence that a judge can downward deviate from a mandatory minimum for a small subset of reasons that all revolve around it being "in the interest of justice". But like I also said, any judge who would do so in a case like this likely wouldn't be a judge come next term.

Per the paper. She was arrested after arriving back from a cruise.

Here’s a FB post with text messages bt the AG, her attorney, and Curtin showing what lead up to her arrest. The AG told her she had a small window of time to meet with them.

Maybe The parole board will intervene on her behalf when she is 65-70. Her crimes didn’t exist without him so her moral culpability is far less although still substantial ( not minimizing her crimes) .That said, as the earlier poster said, if you don’t take the plea you better damn well testify and be compelling on your own behalf.

I don’t think the parole board can intervene when the sentence is life without parole.

A governor or presidential pardon or commutation of sentence is her only option.

Parole isn't my cup of tea, and they keep fricking with the statutes, but I'm not aware of any provision of law that would allow for parole, including "geriatric" parole, of an adult convicted of a sex offense that carries mandatory minimum life without benefit.

He probably won’t care after the first 50 or so years.

I hope he gets some more sex in prison since he apparently covets sex so much.

I think the laws surrounding parole eligibility and calculation get fricked with more than any other area. I exclusively do criminal defense work for a living and can barely keep up

All this time and none of the wife's noods have been leaked (ones of just her, of course)? I'd have thought they would have already been on the back of every truck stop stall door in Denham Springs even before they got caught.

I am blown away that they didn't cut a deal with her to testify against him with her trial coming after his and the charges being dependent on the outcome of her testimony.

From what I understand, they didn’t need her to testify bc the evidence is so compelling against DP and Cynthia.

However, they were open to a plea deal where she pleads guilty to avoid a trial and receives lesser sentence. She rejected that offer.

Sheriff Jason Ard could have stopped this and didn’t. He is complicit.

Seriously? It's one of the worst cases maybe ever involving children, teachers, and extremely sick acts. Even dogs were allegedly not safe from Dennis Perkins.

Add incest to that as well. One or more of Cynthia’s kids were also victims.

If you see yourself on the video doing that shite, you should take the plea deal. Dumb count can rot in prison.

Not only this tape but there were others as well that were used. There weren’t other victims but they had videos they made in public, in homes she had keys to as a realtor, and dressing rooms that were shown to prove that they both got off from risky behavior with sex.

Of the many bizarre things about this case, it’s amazing to me that Ard hasn’t caught more heat for his relationship with Perkins. I fully expected him to be forced to resign, but I guess Livingston Parish is going to let him walk.

That decision will be #1 on her list of lifetime regrets.
