Meh, why do relatives get amnesia when you loan them money?

I know it's a dumbass question, I'm a dumbass, but this happens to everybody at one time in their life. If you loan a relative money, $500, maybe a grand, and they aren't on crack so your faith in them is good. With the knowledge, "I know you must need it or you wouldn't ask".... My question to the OT, is there some kind of contamination or diesease on $100 bills that causes amnesia? Because it ONLY happens to people in my family. Not talking about kids, adults. These assholes can buy new phones, cars, laptops or a fricking HOUSE.....and and..., "I thought I paid you back???" WTF?

1) I've never had a relative ask me for money.
2) If they really needed the money, I wouldn't ask them to pay me back.

It's a terrible idea to loan family money. Either give it to them, or don't. Loaning it creates a weird relationship that even after it's paid back can be hard to get over.

If you plan on "loaning" money to family or friends, dont plan on "getting it back"

Because family assumes that they won't be pressured to pay it back. Don't pay your car note, they take your car. Don't pay your house note, they take your house. Don't pay back your uncle...what?

You would most certainly ask them to pay you back. Especially if it's thousands of dollars. Family's get broken up over shite like this everyday.

i have been burnt twice with friends. Neither was meant to be a loan, I paid something large - hotel - with my credit card and they were going to write me a check.
Only to never write me the check.
But its only $500 or so, and they need the money more than I do.

I get amnesia too with family members that don't honor the loan I give them.
I forget they exist.

Why did you have amnesia and loan a family member money more than once?

No one will ever pay you back if there aren't consequences for failing to do so and oftentimes, even when there are consequences. Never do it.

Ugh. Never loan money without a contract, and if you do, just realize it's a "gift".

I'm sure it has been said countless times. Don't loan money to friends or family. You consider it a gift with no expectation of being paid back. If they pay you back...great.

If someone that owed me over a few hundred bucks said this I would probably cut them out of my life. If you can't pay, or don't feel like you can at the moment, whatever but don't lie to me after I bailed you out.

Does he have a really nice 60" TV? Most people that "borrow" money do. Take that and make it your own.

ALL great questions and answers, only once has a friend not paid me back, only family member do I get dry frick. The biggest issue is with an older brother, who's pretty much gone into hiding and it damn sure broke that brotherhood up.
