I don't know but the Powerball seems to always be larger. I guess more states participate in it?

Was wondering if different states participated in each or something. I mean it is 5 numbers and then a powerball. Same thing as the powerball but I don't see people getting into a frenzy over the megamillions.

Powerball is for the poors
Mega Millions is for the super poors
Mega Millions is for the super poors

There has been some Mega Millions frenzy in the past. Powerball just fudged their numbers to get bigger jackpots and create more buzz.

mega is $1 ... pb is $2 ... mega might have some multiplier bets for lower amounts or something ... double the bet and double the winnings if it's not the big one ...

This.
Mega millions odds are 1 in 250 million -$1
Powerball odds are now 1 in 292 milliin( were 1 in 175 million)- $2
Mega millions only 15 'red' balls . Powerball 26 'red' balls.
Mega millions balls 1-75 . Powerball 1 -69.

Run by two different groups... don't know if this is 100% accurate, but up until a few years ago, it seemed like if a state offered one of them, they didn't offer the other. At some point, either the lottery companies/groups and/or states agreed to offer both in the same states... something like that.

This isn't true. Both are state run lotteries and in most cases, one company supports the operations (GTECH/IGT). Scientific Games is the other, and some states may use both to operate the two lotteries independently, but it's not a requirement and not the "difference."

I don't doubt what you're saying is true-- especially now, as it would be a bit messy to have different lottery organizations trying to handle the revenue. Makes more sense to have one run the operation... and maybe pay licensing fees to the other unless the organizations merge somehow.
But, there did used to be a distinction between two competing groups and they weren't sold in the same states. Per wikipedia:

The above groups might be administrative or maybe the games are just their intellectual property... again, I'm not sure. Don't really know about the companies you mention either (GTECH, Scientific Games, etc.). These might own the MUSL, etc. or be owned by them, or be separate companies that happen to have the expertise to execute / manage the games for MUSL.
While they started out as sort of competitive games, I guess by joining forces, they probably found they could squeeze extra money out of people who play... I'm pretty sure people who play one of the games regularly end up buying tickets for both.

On October 13, 2009, the Mega Millions consortium and Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) reached an agreement in principle to cross-sell Mega Millions and Powerball in American lottery jurisdictions, with the two groups referred to as the "Mega Power Lottery"[6] by many users.

Mega millions tickets are 1 dollar each-powerball 2 dollars each.
Mega millions has much fewer numbers/numbers combinations, so odds are better of winning, even though it has smaller jackpots. I play both, and usually win enough each week on the mega millions that My tickets are almost free, not so much with the Powerball, I rarely ever win anything on that one.

So really the only difference I see is 1 dollar... so makes more sense for me to spend on a mega million than a power ball
