I love money and capitalism. Sadly. I laugh at it as well. You scoff at diet while laughing at it. Laugh at wealth knowing nothing. Tragically, neither of us has done a thing to alter human longevity. We both suck.

So who answers for the money we paid in since we were teenagers? That amount of money over the years should more than cover our expenses.

That you believe that the US Government, with all of its built- in inefficiencies, with its incredible layers of bureaucracy, all those idiots at all those desks, would provide a superior healthcare system then one based on economic efficiencies and market forces is pure magical thinking. Not that any catastrophic failure would ever deter a single Progressive with a slogan and somebody else’s money. In fact, the more it failed, the more likely Progressives would champion it.

See... The problem is that market forces are mythical too. Insurance companies run the entire health care system and guess what? They have just as many idiots at desks as the government. And their only goal is to pay as little as possible for your care so they can make money off of you. It's remarkably in inefficient except for when they take money out of your check every payday.

People always laugh at that but would anyone seriously describe the system we have as actually functioning?

Even with the remnants of the disaster that was Obamacare, we still have by far the best healthcare system on the planet. Plenty of other countries (looking at western Europe) have the US paying for their defense, have a populace in better physical shape, and they still have long wait times and shitty care. The US is far and away the the most technologically advanced country in the healthcare industry.

You have to grasp what a risk pool is in any situation. I'm flabbergasted how the notion is political at this point

We have long wait times and shitty care here though. And we have insurance companies that deny treatment and pay little even when they approve things. Prescription drugs alone are just abysmal.

I am torn on this issue.

Traditional Medicare is a mess with very high copays and deductibles for people with little to no income, while Medicare Advantage plans offer a wealth of services at a much lower cost and have premiums and availability that depends on your area.

But let’s not forget the Medicaid system in senior care equation. It is also partly why Louisiana’s state budget is so high. Medicaid is nearly 1/3 of it and seniors get dumped onto Medicaid anyway when they are reaching the end are stuffed into nursing homes. Louisiana has a huge problem with this because of the state’s laws that favor nursing homes and sometimes paying for empty beds at nursing homes.

Hence my plan, I would shift Medicare away from a federal government managed program and put it into the state’s hands by the expansion of Medicaid. I only say this because most seniors are at or near the poverty level. For seniors well above the poverty level, a CHIP/Advantage like program with copays and deductibles would be available too.

To pay for it, states would either get their money from their share of federal dollars brought in by Medicare Taxes, or states would implement their own version of Medicare taxes. But under no circumstances would I agree to collect both, ie a federal and state Medicaid/Medicare tax.

Brilliant. I hope you mean politicians need cut wasteful spending on special interests groups so they can line their pockets and get rich off the taxpayers. Then stop pulling money out of funds like ss because they've robbed every other fund.

Money for social security should only be used for social security. Same with every other fund. But the government on every side it too corrupt for that.

Healthcare needs to follow along the idea of the Fair Tax.

If you make less than certain amount, healthcare is free, within certain limitations.

Based off income everyone pays a percentage. This way someone making 40K annually feels the same pay as someone making 200k annually. You can cap it at to keep the prices from getting ridiculous, but this system would work, much like the fair tax would work. It'll never happen, because it makes too much sense.

I’ve always heard the Swedes pull it off rather well. However, a 70+% income tax rate would make sense then.....

You think by any chance that the State would do the right thing?

Look back at the TOPS program and were the funding was suppose to come from. But yet, they stole that money to put it in the general fund to plug holes in other programs.

Medicare is for people that has a base line income. These people worked all their lives and paid into it. I'm one of those people. Medicare pays about 80% of bills and on some things less. People that are on Medicare pays the rest. In my case, I carry Medicare plan "F" which cost me a lot, but covers what Medicare doesn't pay.

Medicaid is for poor people that has little to no income. Are we to tell these people to just die?
