I feel like this happens more often than it should. I won’t ever get one of those things.

the Horn noise was the Low rotor, probably had some kind of engine failure while hovering or circling with low airspeed (worst case scenario) started falling and the pilot probably pulled up on the collective lever which made the rotor droop more. When you should lower the collective and nose forward to build airspeed and rotor, but the altitude was probably to low for that.
Or got into steeling with power and also should have lowered the collective and nose forward to build airspeed and rotor

We sometimes fly up to 7 helicopters on fire restoration jobs, the pilots are mainly crazy but good (mostly from New Zealand) and there’s strict maintenance done everyday.
We’ve even run Blackhawks with no accidents.

In my opinion, helicopters are much safer than planes. I don’t know how many hours I have sitting in the back of helicopters (Hueys, 46s, 53s, the occasional Blackhawk) but it’s a freaking lot. Only had two basically fall out of the sky…only a few hundred feet up both times…walked away both times. Not many people walk away from airplane crashes. I was involved in testing the Ospreys when they first came out…we lost a lot of Marines testing those things. Whenever I was on an Osprey, the pucker factor was high.

I think you meant "settling with power". I had that demonstrated to me in a Huey and for those few moments I thought it was coming apart.

I would fly units (polygons) on a Huey and I would be sick after every inspection. Motion sickness is a bitch especially with a shitty pilot.
This idiot would get lost, couldn’t find the units and would get half the drops the other pilots would make in a day.
We flew Kmax too, the double prop with no tail rotor. Same engine as a Huey but could lift twice as much. It’s crazy how small helicopter engines are.

The media is scum and they all need to die.

You would need a drone with a very long battery life and range to fly all over L.A. Metro
Switching to commercial long duration drones would be 95% cheaper than helicopter use. Assuming initial buys at same time. If the helicopter is already a sunk cost and owned by station the savings lowers.
They could have a fleet of drones for much cheaper than a single helicopter.
