I disagree with your statement. There have been many armed car jackings in NOLA lately (at least one resulting in the murder of the driver). It only takes split second for someone to have you. I have seen someone set up where a person distracts the driver and others come up from behind on the passenger side. The driver had a firearm and the would-be criminals slammed the door and ran away.
For you to make fun of someone for wanting to defend themselves shows how naive you are at the current climate in places such as New Orleans.
Please. If you're riding around with a gun on your lap it is probably because you live a lame arse suburban life and want a feeling of power and excitement.
We've been at war for the last 15 years. Plenty of chances to go to combat. There are a lot of responsible gun owners out there but there are more white collar douchebags who want to feel like they are living on the edge.
Seriously if you're riding around with a gun on your lap you're dumb as frick and a pussy.

You can't afford a gun dog?
Posted on 12/3/16 at 10:34 am to TejasPete
FWIW I don't do that either but I am not going to hate on someone who does. It is there if they need to defend themselves or their family against an attacker. I don't get your combat reference. If someone is wielding the gun around that is way different.

Again, what's he going to do if you ignore him? He doesn't have a weapon. He's not using his vehicle as a weapon. Lock your door and roll the window up. If he breaks in, then of course you can defend yourself. It's called being a man, not a hothead pussy on a power trip.

I must have missed the part where McKnight announced he didn't have a weapon.

What a badass tough guy you are.
Let's just be clear, if Pete trys to enter my vehicle while I'm boxed in at a red light and I feel my life is in danger, I'm shooting Pete.
If pete tries to rob me while I'm filling up my truck at a gas station, I'm shooting Pete.
There's your warning Pete, you badass motherfricker you.

Why didn't Gasser call the cops along the way?
There was an incident then drove for miles then shooting at intersection
Am I to believe that during the miles in between nothing happened?
Gasser had plenty of time to call the cops if he honestly feared for his life
He did have time to roll up his windows when JM parked on side of him

How do you know this? I'm seriously asking not questioning you. I've seen nothing saying which door he was at, only that McKnight was obviously out of his car and shots were fired from inside of Gassers. Not that it matters if he was trying to enter the vehicle, but are you basing this only on how the SUV was positioned?

Some are saying he may have been boxed in due to traffic

It's been mentioned in several news reports as well as a video report posted in this thread that JM was positioned and shot while standing at the passenger window.

There is no evidence McKnight brandished or possessed any weaponry during the incident. More information could prove otherwise, of course.
Again, roll the window up and ignore the fool outside. Be the better man.

I believe it was said his body was pulled from between the vehicles to render aid. I may be incorrectly assuming there was no car on the left of them as they were in the right lane and shoulder. It also may be the case he stumbled to the rear.

I'd be pretty scared if a guy got out of his car at a traffic light and was coming at me. What could his intent be other than to hurt me?
Posted on 12/3/16 at 11:11 am to Rouge
so white man shoots black man = riot. black man kills black man all day everyday working as intended?
Posted on 12/3/16 at 11:15 am to rsylve
Was there every any mention of part of JM's finger being found inside the car? Because if he did in fact reach in and then get shot, finger fragments would likely be in the car which would then build a stronger case for Gasser's reason for using lethal force.

Verbally assault you? Damage your car? Steal something from you?
Don't get me wrong, I'd be scared too. But men don't shoot because they are scared.

How do you know he wasn't trying to break into the car? At what point is it ok to shoot? Once the door is open ? When the window is smashed? When he's actually in the car? I don't know, nor do I pretend to know. but to speak in black and white terms like that is foolish.

Me, too. I still think we need all the facts, but the cops obviously considered factors we don't know at this point. As described, seems like at least something is warranted here.
However, I will relay a story - coincidentally, it went down in the:

We were going to pick up some furniture in Arabi at Mrs. Midnight's grandmother's home. We rented a van in BR to transport it round trip. Mrs. Midnight was driving the empty van and I was following in Midnight 1 (a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am, garnet red, baw) - well, we got caught up in some stop and go traffic. A couple of individuals stepped out of one of those corner stores they used to have down there before Katrina. Neither had shoes, 1 had no shirt. They're looking at the traffic and they're staring really hard at the van with I'm sure was an oblivious Mrs. Midnight. I saw the 2 of them hatch the silent plot and take a couple of steps towards the van.
Now, maybe they were just going to chat her up. Maybe they were going to ask for name and number. I don't know. But, I was rolling the window down and if they had grabbed the door handle or reached into the van, I would have blown them both to Mars - that's a fact. About the time they took 2 steps, the traffic started moving and we drove by. I gave them a big smile as I was rolling the window back up.
I doubt they ever knew anything was amiss.

Well that's just stupid. At what point in your world does a man shoot someone?
