Channel 11 in Dallas has video of what led to the cops being called. Showing it on late news. I love when people in threads here jump to conclusions.

Yikes. I can't imagine how he could justify pulling his firearm on them, like that. This TPOS cop was determined to escalate the situation. It's a good thing that other cop grabbed his arm.

It seems a normal person would be fine with just having the teenagers flee the scene and going home. No need to go all judge dredd on them.

Comes down to socio economics

you dont see those problems with blacks living in areas like the one in this video.

The older black guy in the video was dressed better than the dude in jorts and the other with crocs on.

Socioeconomics matters. That doesn't negate that there are latent and active cultural issues as well. Same is true for any group similarly impacted (poor whites, for example).

Moreover, socioeconomics is both a cause and a symptom of the problem. Too many people just want to pretend it is the former.

he's justified in his mind because he was black. you think he draws down on a white kid?

I'll say that there is some credence there . However, I think where we differ i believe that a superficial examination of those crime statistics do not wholly depict a story that is more embedded multiple facets of our society. how and why we got here (pre-integration) is just as important in explaining the current state of affairs as the post-integration relations. The genius of supposed black male criminality can't be explained by an FBI crime report

I'm not one who disagrees with the value of examining how we got here. As a white guy, it is frustrating when it's taboo to quote an FBI crime report, or DWB is considered outrageous but street crime against white and blacks (for money) is just life.

There are always a lot of subplots to these situations that people are just too entrenched to discuss. For example, the cop in this situation is absurd. I don't know if he's racist, but obviously some bias was likely involved and it was a totally inappropriate way to handle the situation. Some cop defenders will show up though, I'm sure.

Likewise, something in the back of a lot of white peoples' minds in situations like this is "what are we supposed to do when large groups of kids/adults who don't look like us and don't live here come to our neighborhoods/playgrounds/whatever." Clearly whatever happened here doesn't justify the ridiculous cop in this instance, but is this concern based in reality? Of course. Happens all the time. It's just uncomfortable to talk about and nobody knows what to do, hence you have laughable and absurd overreactions. My hope would be that in discussing the uncomfortable stuff (in real life, not this thread) we could make head way in avoiding 911 "there is a black guy!" calls and the accompanying police overreaction.

Which is ridiculous, but brings up the obvious question of why the difference? Hatred? Unjustified bias? Justified bias?

I think in this situation the answer is most likely "B," but I don't think we're getting anywhere until we start talking openly about this question.

Now that precedent has been set in TX, why didn't they round up everyone with a pulse, or swimwear on, and charge them with RICO in regard to the trespassing?

They could give them each a million dollar bail and auction their swim toys to raise revenue.

Their participation in swimming, fighting, or trespassing is irrelevant.

Sure. Here's where it begins. It was advertised on social media.

It was a private pool paid for by an HOA. Most of the 70+ sloths that were there were trespassing. The people that paid for the pool were being overrun by the trespassers. Key entry only to this pool for the homeowners that live there. Want to play the they're only kids game some more?

Yep. No problem with pulling the gun. Especially when they run up on him like that.

Can't say the same for how he handled the girl prior.

So a neighborhood pool held an HOA sponsored party called "#Dimepiececookout" with "DJ Reign"?

Did you read the flyer? It doesn't exactly come off as a private party with the free entry and all.

And given how everyone where I grew up just kind of bounced around from pool to pool during the summer (keyed entry or not), it's not hard to see a bunch of teenagers showing up. Especially if they had multiple friends that lived in the neighborhood and were rightfully allowed to be at the party.
