She’s the mayor of a large US city and this is apparently a major conference for US mayors. She is an invited speaker, no less.
Cantrell deserves a lot of criticism, but I can’t fault her for using taxpayer money to attend a national conference related to her job. Maybe she’ll learn something from other mayors while she’s there.

Maybe the conference is paying for her trip to do this?

Is she not allowed to attend a conference related to her job? How many of you go on company paid trips to conferences? How many of you receive PAID vacation time?
By your logic, it’s not the company’s responsibility to cover your vacation time either.

A private business can do as it chooses. Do you not see how a private entity is different than a public employer?

The question is how much is being covered by the city? It’s public record so I bet each news station had already put in a request for the bills.

Yes, but I still don’t see how this is a misuse of public funds (ASSUMING the taxpayers aren’t paying for her husband and kid).
The optics of the destination aren’t great, but she can’t help where the conference is held.

My problem was with the premise of the argument, not the argument itself. With it being public record, if you are a constituent and don't like her then vote her out. But, to compare it to a private company is stupid.
