I've spoken about it before here, Cecil Rhodes was a fricking dynamite guy.
To summarize, he eviscerated a population and then colonized Rhodesia for it's mining capabilities.
He also was a staunch supporter of Britain regaining all of it's previous colonies.

Generally speaking, many of those colonies (continental North America excepted obviously) were far far better off under the British than they were before colonization or since the Empire receded.
Winston Churchill- also a strong proponent of retaining all colonial holdings and one of the biggest enemies of socialism. Are they proposing taking his statues down yet, or is that next?

It's that uncomfortable truth that some groups don't want to hear. Just look at Zimbabwe: it's basically a failed state at this point. The government even had the gall to ask the farmers they confiscated the land from to come back, it has gotten so bad.
If people are going to demonize Rhodes then we might as well carve up the U.S. as well, as the only way we came into being was through genocidal, expansionistic policy.
ETA: I don't understand why they want to take down Nelson, though. What did he do wrong?
