Pretty amazing that only 6 people died from enemy action in the lower 48 in WWII.

The US was extremely fortunate.

Meanwhile, a place like Poland lost around 17% of their population to the war.

Polish Were invaded, defeated in battle. Occupied.
The ghetto Jewry of Warsaw fought back.
Christian and Jewish poles fought guerrilla warfare the entire time.
Catholic priests were gassed or shot along with gypsies,Jews and communists.

3 million polish died.

We got off easy.

Even less publicized was the initiative to send Piss Balloons from Baton Rouge to Europe and Africa.

Jap bombs or just overactive Cinco de Mayo celebration?

Not sure why we drink to the Mexican Army defeating the French Army. I thought the French helped out the US in their war with Britain?

U Boats were 100% in the US via the gulf-- True

and Mississippi River--not corroborated beyond, "My grandfather knew a guy who knew a guy's cousin who saw a periscope at Empire."

I’ve been to the site once on a motorcycle rally. The monument is about 50 feet off of a logging road in the middle of nowhere.

There are big gouges in the trees near the monument still from the explosion.

It’s on corporate timber land now.
