Not as long as the government is giving them $850 a week in unemployment to stay home

Sorry, but this doesn’t work for everyone. Maybe it’s ok for you, but it’s not even 30% of my normal week.

Put it this way, with the state unemployment benefit plus the extra $600 being thrown in by the feds, a lot of people are going to be getting paid as much or more to stay at home than they would normally make by going to work. How many of those people you think are going to be mad if come May 1, the government says everybody needs to stay home and businesses remain closed for another month?

And how long you think this will keep up at this pay rate with the massive number of new daily unemployment adds?

I agree to a point. Open yes, but it won’t be like it was before. Not yet.

I guess you're not one of the millions of Americans whose business and livelihood have been wrecked by this shutdown - consider yourself fortunate. It may have been needed to control the virus spread, but you can't argue that it has been financially devastating for most.

Maybe the better question is why is it so easy for you?

I don't believe it's going to be an "all in" opening up of states and businesses.

I think there will be certain states opening by May 1 with the worst hit states not reopening until much later.

Beaches closed. And the only decent beach in LA is shut down to non residents.

I thought so at first BUT, the huge caveat is you can only make as much as you were before being laid off. You won’t get more. Now still we are paying people the equivalent of working when they aren’t, but they won’t be making more

Those same models show a rebound in infections and hospital usage if shutdowns are lifted before the government has mass testing and contact tracing in place. The guy who runs the models is doing interviews on CNN saying we can't reopen May 1st.

On May 1st they won’t be able to scare the public as easy when people aren’t dying as often. Public will get over this shite and have a short attention span.
