What’s hurting it more is it’s placement. It’s on the opposite side of the metro from the bulk of the business fliers.
Regarding the airport, another pie in the sky thought...
What about building a beautiful modern airport with glass walls, curved roofs depicting flight, moving sidewalks, nice parking garage with walk bridge into terminal across the River in Port Allen on open land right next to I 10? Maybe a light rail on the bridge connecting the airport to downtown? Throw in a loop and transportation infrastructure could have made BR a much more desirable destination.
Shoulda coulda been done 20 years ago but no money, no vision, no leadership.

If another bridge is ever built, an airport on the west side may not be a bad idea.

The air/sea/rail/road plan was for St James Parish (i think). Couldnt get people to work together 25 years ago for something that could have changed the economy of La for the better.

That was a recurring discussion before Katrina, especially on radio with David Tyree(RIP) on WWL and, to a lesser extent from Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare Johnson on whatever stations he moved to.
There was some momentum beginning.

What’s the point of having a stop at the airport....or really anywhere along the route...if the service is only twice daily and includes no express trains? It’s not really a commuter rail without more regular service and at least reasonably high speeds
This.
They have a great concept that they just keep screwing with until it no longer makes sense.
This is really just a scam perpetrated by the railroad to get the government to pay to replace the aging spillway trellis bridge.
This is a shame because a rail link between MSY and the CBD would be a huge benefit to the city, especially with that downtown station being right near the Loyola Streetcar line.

just for reference to fuel the discussion. the Houston MetroRail has 246,104 riders every weekday and over 2 million riders per year.
TIL there are only about 10 weekdays in a year.

To make it work they need an express train from nola to BR.
Then satellite trains. From laplace to nola. Then from ascension to BR.
You train to the terminal station in each city then connect to that city's network.
