The fact any vehicle could get onto Bourbon St on NYE is insane.

No excuse.

I add DHS as well because they have the opportunity to highlight how big a frick up that is and do something about it as well.

He went on the sidewalk, moron. He turned around a NOPD cruiser to get onto the sidewalk.

What else could’ve been done?

The street was blocked moron, do you want them to make walls that block sidewalks?

He drove on the sidewalk around several parked cars blocking it…

I know this will be a learning experience but it wasn’t just completely left open.

The acceleration on the EVs are insane. We’re so lucky the front truck hood popped open and he wrecked into the construction equipment or it would have been so much worse

Canal St. and Decatur used to be closed for big events. Bourbon should be pedestrian only and barriered off at Canal and intersections till the residential area all the time

City of New Orleans is still "under construction" for additional improvements on security for Super Bowl.

Often the weakness is not recognized till after the fact OP is not wrong

but it's not an attack upon this city of New Orleans or its people the next terror attack they find the soft vulnerable spot and often

In the future, the fact is that a lot of mass attendance events may not be held in great cities like New Orleans or maybe even Vegas because the pedestrian traffic is so tough to control and is so close to the event site

Let's just pray if there are other explosive devices or are other terrorists that the authorities don't go forward with the event until it can be done safely

If the follow-up investigation determines that as many here have speculated the terrorists struck at a time where he could get through but it reduced the number of victims it's a blessing but it's also a warning

I wouldn’t say walls no. But I am kind of surprised that Nola doesn’t have bollards for their sidewalks during these types of events.

Yes.

There are raise bollards that can be installed on the sidewalks.

It’s so fricking simple and basic.

Watch the video above. NOPD vehicle was blocking the street but the TPOS swerved around it onto the sidewalk and gunned it.

Vegas is going to end up with the super bowl this year and the sugar bowl will be out of playoff rotation

This is exactly it. This is not an unknown or unforeseen potential occurrence.

In fact, it’s quite probable if you looked at New Orleans and said hey, I want to attempt to terrorist attack.

Just an absolute fail.

They do, but are in the process of being overhauled and updated for the Super Bowl, and many were not in place.
