The FJ cruiser guy walked away from the accident. My daughter was T-boned by a Escalade doing 70 in her drivers door, causing it to roll over. She also walked away after being pulled through the windshield. I am convinced the FJ saved her life. I bought her another one immediately.

It amazes me the safety design of vehicles on the road today. The understanding and implementation of crumple zones and the use of as many airbags as possible has really made wrecks that used to be certain death survivable, sometimes without serious injury.

Fox News website yesterday had story about a nurse that was involved,.She crawled out the back glass, called a co-worker to pick her up and went on to work.Maybe someone can find the story and link it.

If you look at the video of the FJ getting hit directly by the 18-wheeler, it actually looks like the cab of the vehicle surprisingly stayed relatively intact. The damage pictures show as much where the hood and everything under it was destroyed by the cab clearly protected the driver. Unbelievable.

The FJ crumpled to perfection.
Probably a statistical anomaly if you really think about it.

From some other pictures I saw, people in the back seat would have had a bad time had there been anyone in those seats. But yeah, overall a pretty good crumple, all things considered.

Car safety has really improved. Had this event happened in the 80’s or before, the accident scene would have likely become an inferno. Even in the past decade cars have improved with more extensive testing.

It doesn't even appear to be low visibility.
