Not for me personally, but traveling to UAE is pretty safe, recent events notwithstanding. I just have no desire to spend any time in a desert.

Fear not, Seat 28. Dubai is probably safer than any city in the US. And I like the food. The desert...not my thing. The best thing is flying there on Emirates.

Not much to do except camel races and the souk.

i was there last month. All I can say is you did it wrong if that's all you think there is to do there.

I felt safer there than Houston, NO, BR, or countless US cities. Cleaner too.

Didn't Dubai just show off some jet packs for firefighters for this exact reason? There was a thread about it.

Man that thing is still smoldering today and its still standing. That quite the accomplishment considering this fire started on the 20 floor and the weight of another 60 stories in pressed down on the heated I beams.

I was there last month as well for work. As previously stated its clean and I felt very safe. Heck, seems like 80% of the city is ex-pat. The gold market/old Dubai felt a bit more "authentic". To me it was kind of blah.. Worlds tallest building next to the worlds largest mall..full of Five Guys, Texas Road House, California Pizza kitchen, etc..just wanna be westerners.

Wish I flew Emirates.. We fly Delta for work, 14 hours ATL-DBX and 17 on the way home.
