Both North and South presidents were born in KY and Lincoln had friends there from his birth to his death. Kentucky was Southern but hostage because of location and resources. Just look at what happened to the state when Lincoln was shot!

Lincoln knew the North could not succeed without the resources in KY so they were "captive" but their lands were lost to Yankees just like the South. At least till the 1980's the coal resources of the state were held by a handful of families in NYC and Philly. His plan was to protect the South as he had ties there but was shot. Conspiracy folks have suggested this was the real reason they killed Abe.

I have an ancestor from Kentucky that came to Texas and was speaker of the house right when it became a state for a bit.

Okay, but you'll only get agreement from smaller communities in the extreme E, W, and S portions of the state. The majority of the Baltimore-DC axis in the more populous central portion of the state will vehemently disagree w/ you.
I grew up in W MD. Much more like WV there, and I think culturally there's more kinship w/ the South in that region. Same probably goes for the eastern shore of MD.
But w/o a major shift in population (which you just might get courtesy of DOGE -- hoping that proves true for Northern VA as well) you'll never get a majority of Marylanders to agree that they live in a southern state.

Pretty sure a lot of scots Irish came through Pennsylvania although that may have been later on?
A lot of them were indentured servants, the first batch was majority English and then after 100 years or so they switched to half scots Irish.

Buddy of mine is from Baltimore. He's a Yankee through and through. They don't even think in these terms. I had to explain to him the concept of "Yankee" and its current meaning in Southern society.
Maryland is not Southern and has not been since the turn of the 19th century.
