The eastern shore is the small rural strip of Maryland that is also conservative, and culturally southern. The jobs are near Baltimore and DC

Annapolis is probably the leftist Mecca of Maryland(although it looks beautiful). The county was actually settled by puritans who were kicked out of Virginia when it became an Anglican only state (prior to the revolution of course)

Rural Maryland seems far more preferably to me to rural Colorado. More culturally conservative (less libertarian), more culturally southern, nice scenery, good schools, the only issue is the state politics. From what I hear about Colorado (Texas gets conservative refugees from there) the state government is also bad.

Glad to hear this.

I moved from NOLA to Provo Utah 4 years ago, and my experience basically parallels yours.

Major upgrades in several ways. Food a slight downgrade, but that’s a far overstated in my book. And yea, being able to cook on my own helps.

I would absolutely live in Colorado. I would rather not live in Maryland if I had a DC area job.

the tax burden is probably only slightly higher in MD than CO. and depending on the municipality in CO you could easily get strapped paying sales taxes higher than hunter biden in a shady motel

Maryland is just too close to Washington and Delaware for me to consider.

I have worked in Boulder and southern Colorado.
Boulder is definitely a no-go but Colorado Springs and the south half's people think somewhat like folks I grew up around.

So if those are my only choices, I would have to choose (southern) Colorado.

I went to Seattle last year and posted all about it. Where do you gather that I have never left Texas

Southern Colorado (basically an extension of northern New Mexico) seems like the best part of the state to me.

Also crested butte, but I’m sure it has changed a lot since I went (over 10 years ago)

Even then you could tell it might be a better place to visit than live… but man it was nice.

Why is this your first noted characteristic of these states?

And Colorado because of the outdoors.

I love Annapolis but would probably pick Colorado as long as it wasn’t Denver

MD is way too citified for me, but there' s plenty of work there. Expensive, but the standard of living is good. Lots of things to do. There's a beach in Ocean City, but after living on the Gulf Coast, that's not an enticement.

CO is beautiful, but according to a colleague who lives in Denver:
Traffic is terrible and most of the drivers are high. Like Golf Pro Shop high.
