Maybe $150. Maybe.
If you're eating nothing but Ramen.

Hell this week I bought food for 4.66 days (3 meals a day, no dinner Friday) on <$22.
Let's hear about these amazing meals.
Regardless, you aren't "doing whatever you want." You'd be getting by with bare essentials, which is exactly what I said. Downvote away though.

Just to be clear, last I read, 40% of people living in NYC are below the poverty level.
How do they get by? Government subsidies- EITC, SNAP, EBT, etc...
Your tax dollars hard at work to fund their slumlords.

my typical single man diet:
breakfast: apple or oatmeal or eggs
lunch: turkey sandwich
dinner: can of baked beans and protein shake
everybody has said you sacrifice in some areas to do the things you want
groceries was one of my things I didn't really care about

I picked cheap numbers for all of them to give a best case for your side. It still doesn't leave much leftover for all those other things I mentioned.

like I said, "living quite well" is subjective
at that point in my life, I could not care less about food, it was simply fuel for my body
nobody in this thread has said you wouldn't need to sacrifice some luxuries in life

you were high on most of them

Well I made a pot of jambalaya Sunday that is good for 5-6 meals, turkey sandwiches fully dressed on whole wheat bread with home grown tomatoes for a lunch or three. Oranges from the farmers market for lunch with the sandwiches. Bananas from the farmers market and chocolate milk for breakfast.
Now that I think about it, I could probably go <$20, but I recall throwing a kit kat in as an impulse buy. Totally worth it though.

Not based off actual bills I've paid. It's not like I said $250 for tv and internet. You're claiming living comfortably. Having nothing doesn't meet that criteria. But I should have guessed that you'd just pick them apart.
Can we all just agree that $35k isn't enough money to do whatever you want and let this die already?

I'm gonna need to see what you put in your pot of jam before I believe you bought all of the stuff to make everything you just listed for $22.
