Or I just call people out when they say bull shite like "I can do whatever I want on $30k (ETA: or $35k to stick to the premise of the OP)a year salary while saving for retirement."

I did exactly that. Not sure what's so hard to comprehend about this.

family of 5, owning a new home, 30 acres of land, and taking long vacations in the late 90s seems equivalent to a single guy today...maybe?

But now we're up to $60k?

No you didn't, unless you didn't want to do anything that cost money.

Yes. Gas in the 90's was at least half of what it costs now. Cars cost less than 2/3 of what they do now. Everything was much cheaper.

No one in this thread did whatever they wanted on that meager salary. I'm sorry that bothers you so much.

Not sure who's winning the battle here.

I keep flip flopping my ideas about my fresh out of college 35k job now. Can I do it or can I not.

Damn son. You do all your grocery shopping exclusively at Whole Foods?

$70 a week for groceries, hygienic, and cleaning supplies is a lot? That's nothing.

Buy a house, buy a new vehicle, have premium tv channels, go an any decent vacation that involved something other than camping.

You could do any one of those, maybe. But not all of them together.
