To support 2nd degree but we all know they go for the most in hopes of a settlement. the public should be able to see the video after a jury decision.

This abomination just made the NY Times news alerts it's on a significant fraction of the smartphones in America right now.

I'd love to know what's on the body camera video. It has to be pretty damning for that kind of response from Edmonston.

Yeah, I don't want to see the video. I have a high tolerance for awful things but not when it comes to kids. If Edmonson said it was that bad, it probably involves the kid.
Kid is probably screaming and then stops when the shooting starts.

I don't want to see that.

I would also like to plug Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office up there with LSP. Jeff Wiley has run a great agency and and they are the most professional and responsible of any local agency in the state

Interesting. So is it common practice for Sheriffs to give badges to their friends?

As a father also I would like to see what the people who are protecting my family do

Maybe they aren't protecting and I would like to see that so I know what I'm dealing with.

I saw something on the thread earlier about the mug shots. We're the cops black? Makes zero difference to me but it would be an interesting twist based on all that goes on these days with cop shootings.

Yes. Both cops arrested are black, victims are white. Could you imagine the shitstorm if the races were reversed?

NBR would have already burned down.

This would be a gigantic story covered 24/7 on a national level if the races were reversed. It is terrible either way and I hope the media doesn't lay off of it because the racial component isn't exactly what they like to push.

If Col. Edmunson is distubed and disguted by what he saw, I imagine it must be pretty bad. He's always seemed like a straight shooter, no pun intended.

Not looking good for them. This may have been answered already and if so my apologies, but what the heck do these marshals do (what is a marshal)? I know what the federal marshals do, but that's not these guys. And it sounds like they don't have a jurisdiction, training, etc. who pays them? Can anyone just decide to play cop (a bus driver for instance) and start writing tickets, and can this be done anywhere?

I cannot stop thinking about this poor child and how absolutely chaotic and terrifying his last few moments on this Earth must have been. Hopefully there was no pain and suffering and it was an instant death for him, because I cannot fathom him being awake while officers shot into the SUV at his father and him.

Sure, but I was hoping the officers would be white as well so we could avoid this type of conversation.

Why?

Who cares about the races involved?

Oh.

You do.

My point is that if the victim and the officer are the same race, then it eliminates any sort of racial element of the discussion, and we can focus on the heart of the problem - injustice and abuse of power by law enforcement officers.

As soon as the races differ, it becomes a clusterfrick and nothing gets accomplished.

Just saw the story at LINK

quote:

"I can tell you, as a father, it was one of the most disturbing things I've witnessed," Edmonson said. "Extremely disturbing, and it is partly why we are here tonight."

I definitely did not think of this, but it's probably true unfortunately.. Would be a bigger ordeal if the races were reversed. So much protests.. etc..

It would even be a bigger deal if the cops were black and white and the victim was black..

Oh well. It's always a double standard.

I'm not going to get worked up over that.. I am just sad.

This, coupled with the rumor that Few had a previous conflict with one of the Marshals, makes this seem premeditated.

Emphasis on the word rumor please, as nothing(at least to my knowledge) has been confirmed yet.
