Key details of the shooting remain a mystery even to the investigators, as two of the four agents in the event have refused to speak to authorities as of Friday night, prompting a rare public expression of misgivings toward officers by their law enforcement counterparts.

“It’s more concerning the longer it takes (for them) to talk to us,” said Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson, who is overseeing the shooting investigation. “All we want to know is what happened.”

Had his own troopers been involved in a similar altercation, he said, “we would have already interviewed them.”

The shooting laid bare tensions between the city of Marksville and a local marshal agency led by a school bus driver who lacks basic law enforcement certification.
