Mark Rober's new video on drone delivery service/technology is pretty cool.

Amazing Invention- This Drone Will Change Everything
The drone delivery company is Zipline and they are doing great business in Rwanda. They also developed a propellor with the normal thrust of traditional propellers that are a lot more quiet. It's a good watch for the simple fact that most people will have their stereotype of an African country challenged.
Anyway, I didn't catch it in the video if the question was answered but I wonder why Zipline is not in the U.S.? FAA regulations?

My son watches all of his videos and I happened to catch this one. Was pretty cool.
From what I recall, the amazon drones were too loud so they created a solution with a unique blade pattern and a mother ship that drops down an attached unit to drop packages on the ground. The mother ship stays at about 400 feet so you never hear anything.
I think it is still being tested, but no limitations that they spoke of

Sounds terrifying. This is the beginning of Terminator.
How long before ChatGPT merges with the Amazon drones and Google servers to imprison us?

Right.
I wonder what the FAA regulations are on these drones. There has to be a max height and buffer around airports and other government areas they are prohibited to fly in.

Wonder how this would fare in a big city with tall buildings etc. Very cool concept though.

Im willing to bet the FAA has drone highways akin to having Airplane Highways.
If they dont, they should probably be mapping this now instead of later.

Our small town of Granbury TX has had drone delivery of fast food orders for over a year now. Here's the drone delivering Whataburgers to our house:

There's no charge for the delivery - I assume the drone company cuts deals with the local fast food joints.

Off topic. But hats off to Mark Rober. Not many people on the internet making such great educational videos for kids. We need more of that.

so they drop it at the street? because your not getting anywhere near a house door delivering from a 400ft tether

Watch the video. They deliver by tether or parachute depending on the cargo. The tether delivery module has fans to maintain position directly under the drone even during a windy day.

Will never make it in the south until they can figure out how to get footage so clear they know who is responsible for shooting them down.

I didn't mention it but that was my first thought too.

No, our local drone service flies at 250 ft from their base to our home and then once over the pre-determined landing area (in our case the drive way) descends to 80 ft and lowers our order by tether. See pic a few posts above.

Cool video thanks for posting. This technology is astounding. Is Zip line stock available?

I used one of the bags with the Flytrex logo on it to carry a modem and router to Verizon to swap out for an upgrade. An old rancher saw the bag and asked what it was. I explained about the drone delivery service and showed him the pic I posted above. He scratched his chin and said "Better not fly that thing over my spread - I'll shoot it down."
