AL money has been pouring over every border for years to buy lotto tickets.

We may never have lotto money or weed money, but at least we will all be in heaven.

I actually believe it would be legalized federally before it will in AL. I used to have hope, but then the buzz wore off.

Cool - 8 million to the state and 120 million to the crooks who run the state. Louisiana's Infrastructure isn't as screwed up as it is because there has never been money to improve it and that won't change.

Colorado had 71.3 million tourist in 2014. New Orleans had 9.3 million. Marijuana sales in New Orleans would not be on the scale of Colorado's.

Not that i have a problem with this but it seems passing online poker would be the more logical step to find tax dollars before legalizing a mind altering substance

Gambling is 100x more destructive than marijuana.

I do quite a bit of both

eta: but it really isn't debatable. gambling is WAY worse for society.

Well first off your comparing a state to a city.

quote:

A record 71.3 million visitors spent $18.6 billion in Colorado in 2014

quote:

Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne announced Thursday (April 2) about 28.7 million visitors brought an estimated $11.2 billion to Louisiana

So Louisiana tourists spend more per capita it seems than Colorado tourists.

Tax revenue isn't why I want weed legalized.

I want weed legalized because it is not dangerous, it doesn't kill people, it can help sick people relieve their pain and consenting adults should be free to do whatever the frick they want do. It's the right thing to do.

Wanting weed legalized for tax revenue is something only a big gov't tax and spend liberal democrat would do.

Personal liberty outweighs any other issue for legalization.

It could generate infinite tax dollars and the police union/prison lobby would still be against it.

The police union/prison lobby is against legalizing anything and supportive of criminalizing everything. The more people in prison, the greater their job security.

I will start by saying it should be legal.
But... This is a lopsided number. It doesn't take into account the tax dollars used to legalize and enforce the new laws. Like underage usage, testing after vehicle accident, and things like that. It will never be an unlimited stream of money. It will always be off set with this spending, but should be a net positive.

t's the same way here in Kentucky. They had to fight tooth and nail just to grow/sell hemp again because of the Bible beaters that adamantly protest against pot. So instead we give $18 million dollar tax breaks for an Ark amusement park while the state retirement fund goes under.

I forgot what I was watching, some weed show. this officer in kentucky said marijuana will not be legal in kentucky as long as hes still living. I was like, damn dude. He basically has made it his life mission to eradicate it from kentucky. Dont you think all that energy could be useful elsewhere?

LA made $60 million in tax rev off of alcohol sales. You could prob get around that, but i would point out that LA also doesnt tax as much on alcohol as some of the other southern states. Like Alabama, they made $210 mil off alcohol sales.

I have an idea. Raise the taxes on alcohol. Then all the people complaining about legalizing weed get what they want. more tax revenue and weed staying illegal.

NOLA weed tourism would be huge.

I can already smell the influx of the homeless gutterpunks roaming the qtr. The increase would be ten fold when it happens.

However, would it lower violent crime? Just let the crackheads become potheads. I think this is a plus.

I've never been one to dig around the Internet look for evidence to back up my beleifs but it would seem to me that a gambler has the capability to hurt himself and possibly his family depending on their financial situation where as someone taking anything that could impair ones judgement runs this risk of hurting themselves or anyone else if they choose to get behind the wheel, clean their gun, run with scissors, etc.

In the end I just want online gambling legalized so I can sit on my couch in my boxers and get my gamble on.

I dont think people would come to LA just to smoke weed.

Colorado is nice. You dont see people clamoring to vist oregon or washington to smoke weed. I could be wrong, but i dont recall any friends moving there, just colorado.

Haven't read this thread but this number seems grossly underestimated in my opinion. Going to read the article now
