New Orleans has one of the largest and most unique week long celebrations on earth full of awesome live music, floats that are works of art, people of all walks of life celebrating and communing just having a good time.

New Orleans has a richly distinct and amazing culture full of wonderful architecture, art, history, food, music, and spirit and it’s a shame that we’re watching it descend into chaos and letting it slowly fall apart.

Mardi Gras tonight reminded me how much I love this city. And how much I loathe the people tearing it apart.

I thought this too when I was young. Fortunately I grew older than 25, left and quickly realized how much of a shithole New Orleans is and always be. The food and a couple traditions will never change that fact.

Agreed. But the OT is full of people who have spent a sum total of three days in New Orleans in their lifetime who will respond with "Shithole!" and poo poo your sentiment.

If you don’t think New Orleans is a shithole then I don’t know what to tell you.

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is only one whole day! Can you grasp that fact? We have been in the season of Carnival since King’s Day.
Carnival ends on MG. Please evolve.

I spent the first 33 years of my life in NOLA and moved away because it is a shithole.

Not sure there is any greater life experience than taking in MG* on warm and sunny Mardi Gras day in the 70's.

Place with a vibe and spirit like no other. My fav place in the world, especially this time of year.

Miserable people with never-to-far racist hint filter themselves from that magic that you speak of, and I silently thank them for removing their vapid fabric from the city’s flow every time they post.

FFS. This is a Louisiana-centric message board. Nola is not a faraway mysterious place.

I’m here now - did Zulu ball last night, have Endymion Extravaganza tonight, parades on Sunday. It has been fun, but definite constant reminders of the city’s shithole-ness too. Lyft added $100 extra dollars on top of my $30 ride last night because it ended up taking 1hr 18m to get basically 1 mile. And I would have walked if I didn’t promise Jones I wouldn’t due my hotel being located on Canal where I very well might be shot or robbed.

I’m here for 4 days without my engagement ring on, if that emphasizes how little I trust being here currently. I left my car with family in Gretna.

because the non-angry, non-grouchy people are outside doing fun things not online

IRL it is sad how many people are miserable in their own lives.

This is what I am saying. Our hotel on the route with patio for guests only with catered food and drinks certainly was not cheap.

Could be the greatest city in the world, instead is lawless.
