Another big issue is that Cajun culture historically *does not* put a lot of emphasis on economic productivity and enterprise.
Cajun Culture isn't the problem by a LONG shot

Not industrial? What rock are you living under

Ohio and PA are surprising. No reason those industrial states should be in that bad of shape
Ohio has improved a lot. Columbus is becoming a tech center and Intel has purchased 1000 acres in Licking County and is building 8 new chip making facilities. There's still a fair amount of auto manufacturing with Honda and Ford leading the way. It's a more diverse economy than it was when steel mills and auto manufacturing lead the way along with farming.

quote:Correct whatever I got wrong here, but there are 6 dark blue states on the growth chart, the highest growth being dark blue. All 6 of those are red states voting wise
top 10 states with highest population growth rate
6 red 4 blue
ID
MT
SD
TX
FL
SC
The next shade of the 2nd tier of highest growth is the middle colored blue states, of which there are 6 of those are as follows:
UT - Red
AZ - Blue
GA - Blue
TN - Red
NC - Red
DE - Blue
So is it not 9 of the top 12 highest growth states are red states?

The amount of ugly arse yellow license plates from New Jersey and New York that are on South Carolina roads is making me more and more miserable by the day.
Hopefully just passing through on their way to Florida. Any that want to stay here must fight the Ohio transplants for the right.

You are certainly welcome here. Can’t blame you for getting out of there and its not your fault that Charleston and Mount Pleasant city councils are whores for developers.
They’d rather pave over a historically black neighborhood block to put up another 6 story high rise of apartments before they’d protect charm, history, and culture of the Lowcountry.
Sadly, it’s only a matter of time before the hidden gems of SC are discovered and overrun by northeasterners.
I'm more proud of being a South Carolinian than I ever was of being an Illinoisian over the 20 years I lived there.
Also, this is me to a T

Not sure this is happening....Tennessee for one is seeing a lot of people moving from Illinois, California, and New York and many that I've met are conservatives that are tired of their vote not counting and going to where they do count for something. They are fleeing liberal areas for a reason. Same thing in Arizona, Nevada, and Florida. Most people don't realize that the vast majority of land area in states like California and Illinois are actually heavy republican populations but the state's "blue designation" are carried by a few metro areas.

If I'm not mistaken, AZ and GA are more purple than anything. Georgia just went blue for the first time after going red the five previous presidential elections and Arizona the same...barely went blue after being red going back to 2000. Both might've been republican longer, I just didn't check back further.

Sad but all the states represented in dark blue have had their best days behind them. Slow decline from here on out.

The interesting facts about SC auto production is they got a leg up in the Euro car market by bringing in BMW in the early 90s which has led them to be the #1 car exporting state in the US (BMW, Volvo, and Mercedes) and also the #1 tire exporting state in the US (Michelin and Bridgestone). There are over 500 auto-related businesses in SC now.
I'm not sure how many automotive companies are located on Mississippi, but it's a ton as well. Yokohama and Continental AG have new plants here.
Aerospace and defense are even more important in Mississippi. There's an Airbus helicopter factory, GE jet engine plant, NASA's Stennis Space Center, Rolls Royce North America engine testing, and Ingalls Shipbuilding which builds and maintains about half of the surface fleet for the US Navy and Coast Guard and employs over 12,000 people.
There are over a dozen smaller, specialized companies as well some of which work in conjunction with MSU, which has the top UAV program in the country.
The Airbus A320neo and A220 factory is in nearby Mobile, Alabama which employ some Mississippi residents.

Wonder if France would take New Orleans back? Worth a shot.

Georgia is still very much red on a state government level. Both houses are solidly Republican.

All of the states gaining population have a good balance of political parties. The red states have a lot of growing and successful blue cities.
Look at Texas for example. Red state with booming population growth in the blue counties of their major cities.
That’s what I call a good and healthy balance.

Just from a quick search:
South Carolina is a leader in the automotive sector. Home to nearly 500 automotive-related companies, with an annual economic impact of more than $27 billion, the state is the #1 automobile exporter and the #1 tire producer and exporter in the US, accounting for nearly one-third of the US market share.
Some of the automotive companies that call South Carolina home:
Mercedes-Benz Vans
Bridgestone
Gestamp South Carolina
Michelin

Volvo Car USA, Inc.
Magna Seating South Carolina
Giti Tire
Robert Bosch, LLC
It's not just BMW.
