Mannequins designed not to offend

Alexandra Waldman used to hate shopping. As a plus-size woman, not only did she have to go to some far-hidden corner of the department stores on Fifth Avenue to find clothes that fit her — far away from the contemporary, so-called “normal” fashions — but she had to settle for matronly items shown on bulky, unattractive mannequins. “It was a little painful to look at them,” Waldman, a former fashion journalist and finance marketer, tells The Post of the mannequins. “They were ham-fisted in the way you would imagine a Soviet wrestler at the Olympics to look: massive, beefy, instantly not associated with youth. It was everything that you dread with a modern plus-size woman.”

In 2015, Waldman and her friend Polina Veksler launched the minimalist label Universal Standard, which serves sizes 10 to 28, and, in late 2017, the mannequin maker Ralph Pucci approached the pair about collaborating on a new line of body-positive models. Now, when Universal Standard — which sells directly to consumers online — holds pop-up shops throughout the country, they tote their specially-made Pucci figures with them.

Last month, the youthful fast-fashion label Missguided debuted an array of real-girl mannequins, featuring stretch marks, freckles and even the skin condition vitiligo, which causes patches of skin to lose their pigmentation.
It never ends.

Whales upset after seeing the size of the jib needed to support their girth.

Fifth Avenue is shaming the fatties. That's good.

It just seems they could’ve put all that effort into going to the gym

Mannequin on the right has a bag over her head. Bitch must be super ugly.

While I get your point if you read 30% of the posts on the OT are someone complaining about something equally as silly. The OT likes to think of itself as above the fray but a good chunk of the time it is the fray.

I was thinking "meth-positive".

Where are the “crack positive” and “meth positive” ones.
Maybe a “heroin positive” one with track marks next to the vitiligo.
How about simply an “anorexia positive” one with all the ribs showing, bleeding gums, and bald spots.

I thought that's what we were supposed to do, point out the ridiculous. They're going to have mannequins with acne. Is that really going to make someone feel good about themselves?

This is next level spin. Body-positive replacing "fat" is like that guy who called murder "reacting negatively" in that New Orleans murder thread.

I wasn't talking about posts pointing out the ridiculousness of others but instead posts ranting about equally ridiculous stuff. People here get butthurt and complain about the most innocuous things.
I don't know if the skin quality of the mannequins will make anyone feel better about themselves but I do see at least one thread a week where an OTer is upset that fewer people on TV look like them...

News flash: "Abnormal person and unhealthy person surprised to find out they are abnormal and unhealthy."
