Mandeville City Council kills Port Marigny Development after 2 years

City spent over 350k in legal fees over two years to vote the development down 4-1. As a former resident of Mandeville, I think a development like this with less housing units would have worked. Now the property will sit abandoned as it has for
years.

When the smoke cleared after the Mandeville City Council's long awaited decision on the proposed Port Marigny development Thursday night (March 9), opponents of the contentious residential and business community were celebrating a victory while lamenting the struggle endured to defeat a project they believed would have destroyed the vaunted ambience of their community.

It needs far, far less housing units than what was proposed. The project had hundreds of housing units AND a hotel. The traffic load in that area would have become immediately unsustainable.

I grew up in the neighborhood literally next door.
Monroe traffic would've been fricked. But it would've been a cool development for prestress

It's a half mile to causeway. I feel like the city could have improved the infrastructure, but this is more of a get off of my lawn keep Mandeville from more commercial development type move.

I actually thought it would've been cool to put Bass Pro Shops there in a mized use development before they settled on Denham. Would've gotten tons of water traffic.

Makes me proud that I don't live in Mandeville. What a bunch of backwards idiots.

Why the frick would anyone not directly involved with a shitshow like that want it in their backyard? If you won't look out for your own interests, nobody else will. Not everybody is about development for development's sake. NIMBY is a perfectly rational attitude to have.

Don't care if it was the right decision rather shoot first ask questions later.

Me too. So did a lot of people except the developers.

I mean once you build that, there's no going back when traffic is fricked everywhere.

They should have let Copeland build his compound. The attraction to watch his boats go in and out would have been great. RIP AL

Say what you want but it is consistent there that the folks with tons of money don't want anything built. They don't need jobs and they don't need opportunity so they manipulate the system to get stuff shot down. But that is our system. Sucks for the little guy.

Some people like Mandeville the way it is and don't want it to turn into Slidell.

Yes, we have some idiots on our city council.

The developer made every effort to appease the council. 350 k on legal Fees is only the beginning. Believe me, Monroe st is already a cluster frick in the mornings. I pass by there just about everyday, if the city addresses infrastructure needs , I'm trying to figure out what the issues would be.

Backwards? Because they didn't want this development which included a hotel and "mansion homes". What are mansion homes you ask? The answer is apartment buildings... LOL

For a small city, Mandeville traffic is already fricked as it is.

I don't doubt that but ultimately they want a monstrous development and although they made concessions it's still way too big/broad.

You mean the way it was? It's too late for Mandeville now.

I like it the way it is and I am not even from there. Frick that development and the developers.
