Are there state laws in La, that make those things illegal? In Missouri, there are laws, and under those laws, it makes Red Light and Speeding Cameras illegal.

Even after Cities were told by their Lawyers not to do it, they went out and were robbing their citizens with these damn things.

Finally a Some one who knows people in high places got one, and took it all the way to state courts, and not only did they agree that they are illegal, they made the cities pay the people back.

The worst part, is that the Cities were told that it is illegal, by a Judge who got an injunction, a year+ earlier, but cities were able to injunction that injunction, and they continued to rob people.

A $40 red light ticket, suddenly became a $150 ticket, all because a camera caught you, not a cop(lol), with the camera company making out like a bandit.

What few studies there are that i have seem have shown taraffic stop cameras actually increase accidents

I've read the opposite; particularly here in Houston where we just got rid of them about 2 years ago because of a similar situation - *proving* it was you driving the car.

I'm certainly in the minority here because I actually liked the cameras but can certainly understand the frustration people have with them although the argument is pretty diluted IMO.

its about revenue

Zero doubt about that. It's a money grab.

I have 8 or so unpaid speeding tickets from the belle chase speed van.

Every time they call I ask them why they're calling from Arizona or wherever, and that i didnt realize Belle Chase PD relocated their HQ to another state.

The they threaten my credit etc. I just laugh and hang up.

Freaking NOLA just boots your car so you have to pay them

There have been reviews that never, truly gave an exact answer on whether it helped or caused more accidents.

Some said it caused more rear end accidents, others no, saved more from accidents. None, ever, had 100% clarity on either side.

Every city or town has that ONE intersection where it is all about safety and people running red lights. Here in New Orleans it has been, without a doubt, the corner of South Carrollton Avenue and Drexel Dr./Palmetto Street.

When I worked at Xavier University, trying to come out of that parking lot was a total nightmare, often I saw at least three to five cars run that light per light change. The cross street, Drexel Drive is a "No Turn on Red" but at afternoon drive time, the traffic on South Carrollton is heavyish. That would be the only one I might defend, the rest of them are money grabs.

Belle Chasse has a speed van? Maybe you mean the City of Gretna one often on Hwy 23? There is presently a class action suit against the City of Gretna over it.

That's right. It's Gretna not Belle Chase my bad

I get (2) tickets from it every time I go to Venice. One on the way down and one on the way home

.

They just got me a couple months ago. How do I get a part of this action. I searched about not paying it and it seemed like more of a hassle than paying for it so I just paid it.

The law firm is in Monroe. Google it. Their website should have info about joining as a plaintiff.

My damn ticket was $233. I was driving someone else's car and they insisted on paying it.

That's awesome.

Camera tickets are complete B.S.

It is awesome, but it should also point out a significant flaw in the traffic court system as a whole, not just the camera tickets. This gentleman is a law professor, so it cost him nothing to argue his case (even though he hasn't received his bond money back yet).

For the layperson, getting an attorney for $150/hr to contest a $120 speeding fine simply doesn't make sense. It is a pure racket, and entire law enforcement departments are funded on the back of that racket.

Take a backwoods operation like the Jeanerette City Marshal's office. Their expenditures have increased nearly 6 fold in the last 10 years and they're more than 16 times higher than they were in 2000, all while Jeanerette's population is down 10% in that time frame. These frickers are patrolling Hwy 90 writing speeding tickets and doing so on a budget more than 3 times the size of New Iberia's city marshal. It is the epitome of corruption.

They implemented the traffic violation camera in college station, we voted that unlawful shite out.

Was incredible. Democracy at it's finest. I remember people setting up shop on campus lobbying kids to change their voter registration so they could vote in the special election

I agree with this. I have received 2 citations for running a red light. The only proof they have is that my vehicle ran a red light on a particular date and time. There is no proof that I was the driver at that date and time. I am under no obligation to provide that evidence for them or to certify under penalty of perjury that it was not me, the burden is on them to prove that it was me. I have ignored these 2 letters for almost 3 years without penalty - hasn't even shown up on my credit report.

I'm fighting a ticket issued for parking. There was no sign and it was missing. I provided pictures and video. They keep sending me delinquent letters and when I call they say "don't mind the letters, your ticket is still under review" I'm uoset because it's been six months now. How long does it take to review a ticket. I just wanted to fight it to see if it was possible when the ticket was unjust.

(parking in an area designated no parking during certain events, yet there was no signage)

So if the person was the owner of the vehicle and they were speeding, would there be any point in getting in on this class action?

All you have to do is identify the driver (usually obvious in the photo) and provide their DLN and you are off the hook. Passed on a couple to my kids and forced them to pay the fines. Don't want to get caught by a camera breaking the law? Don't break the law!

Yes. It appears unconstitutional in several respects. If successful everyone should be refunded. Possibility of some settlement where they discontinue use and refund some of the money and pay attorney fees. Depends on which judge and appeal judges to some extent.
