Video is a couple weeks old and didn't see it posted here.

Article

quote:

Software engineer Wesley Michel said he was waiting for a friend when a man who’s been identified as Christopher Cukor demanded to know the name of the person he was waiting for, and then called police claiming Michel was trespassing. Cukor brought his young son outside with him and the child can be seen and heard pleading with his father to not call police saying he agreed with Michel.

Cukor, who works as an executive for YouTube according to his LinkedIn profile, ignores his sons cries and continues to ask police to respond to the location.

A minute later, Michel’s friend shows up and demands to know what is going on. The entire time, the young boy tries to convince his father that they should leave.[quote]

[quote]Cukor is on the phone with police saying, “There’s a trespasser …” as the boy again asks if they can please leave. The boy says, “Daddy, don’t. It’s the better daddy. I agree with him.” But Cukor stays on the phone saying Michel “tailgated” him through the door and then begins to describe Michel saying he has on a pink polo shirt, a Yankees cap and “appears” to be African-American.

I swear, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Just about every news media unsurprisingly jumped on the "that's racist!" bandwagon. The article I posted provides a little more perspective.

The guy filming is such an a-hole. Why should the resident with his son let someone he doesn't know into his apartment building? There's a locked door there for a reason and it's not to let strangers have access to the building for security reasons.

I also stumbled across a similar incident from last year, and the person who tried to block the stranger from tailgating was fired from her job for "racial profiling." I hope she sued the hell out of them for wrongful termination.

Didn't Cukor, the man who called the cops, actually say he did it because the man was black? Or something to that effect?

ETA - I could be misremembering. These stories are basically an everyday thing to the point where I simply don't care.

This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode when Jerry doesn’t let someone who said they forgot their key into the apartment building. Jerry later finds out this person lives a few doors down from him.

If that's the case, this is another hoax.

Or, he just doesn't know the person? It's a dumbass move to let a stranger into your apartment complex, regardless of what they look like.

Though I'll make an exception for little old granny.

If I lived in a high end apartment building, especially where my kids lived, and someone tailgated me through a security door, I'd probably do something about it like talk to the guy and ask him to wait outside until his friend can let him in. Claim that I'd get in trouble with security if I let him in without knowing him.

I haven't watched the video though.

Nah. You've got nothing to support that either. Could it have been? Sure. It doesn't matter. Nobody should be letting people tailgate past secure doors into buildings where people live. I know people do it to not appear rude, but it's a terrible practice.

If you don't have a key, and I don't know you, you'll have to wait. I would just close the door and move on. No need to engage in discussion.

We had a nice pool in my building. Free loaders would come all the time. Security would have to remove them.

I don't see this as a race issue.

Oh I agree 100%. I have no problem with profiling either. Some may call that racist, but I dont give a shite. It's called common sense to me. Profiling is an absolute necessity.

I lived in a secure apartment building for a year. I was coming in through the back entrance one time and this dude tried following me in. I asked him if he lived there and he said no, he was visiting a friend. I pulled the door shut on him and told him he needed to walk around the corner to the main door. He called me an a-hole and a few other things. I laughed at him and got in the elevator. I didn't know the guy and he didn't live there, so frick him. He could have been there to murder someone, I don't know.

I don't think this is unreasonable. Asking him to politely wait outside is a lot different than acting belligerent and calling the police though. At that point he was being an a-hole.

Guests weren't even allowed to walk around our building without an owner.

People are retarded if you think this is a race issue.

How'd you like if I tried entering your home while you were leaving?

There's a reason every owner/tenant is given a code and/or fob to enter a private building.
