Just saying there is more aspect for some of these people than the final dollar amount they can get for their house.
They want to remain near family and friends and the neighborhood they made memories in.
Some feeling of being tied to the land in some way. Money can't buy that for everyone.
With all due respect, give me a fricking break. They can take that $600k windfall they did nothing to create and get chauffered limo service for anyone they want to see. Or, if that physical tie to those memories is so valuable, sack up and pay the taxes. But i can think of just under 3 million financial situations to be in that are worse than having a fully paid off house that used to be worth 100k now being worth 700k.

As he mentioned, he’s multi generational resident and mama d was a pretty well known community activist. I’m not saying they need to bow at his altar but to not have any idea who the community organizer a few doors down is indicates that you aren’t making any effort to know you’re neighbors. Even if they hated the dude, I’m surprised they didn’t know him.
Is this Dyan Cole's dipshit son? Totally figures if so. She is the gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah, like I said. It isn't strictly a financial situation that sucks.
Someone can be forced into selling the family farm and make $5MM dollars off it. Doesn't make selling your great grandfathers farm any more palatable.

Survivors include a son, Byron Cole of New Orleans; a sister, Audrey Jackson of New Orleans; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Yes. That’s Mamma D’s real name right? She testified to Congress after Katrina and told the federal government not to help.

These are the low wage dishwashing, back of house, bus driver type families that never amount to much and are stuck in the cycle.
A half million windfall sounds like just the ticket for getting out

I watched every second of that video and I'm so glad I did. That was fantastic.

While my mind and your mind don't work in this way, they aren't exactly trying to get out. Through whatever weird twist they like the life.
One of those "You could get $5MM but you have to leave everything right now"

They dont want to leave, they dont want to pay more to stay even if it means increasing their property value and makes their neighborhood safer.
They want things to change but they dont

Pretty much where every response leads when someone brings up the contradictory nature of "gentrification"
We want investment, but not people who invest. We want money, but don't want to spend money to make money. We want less crime, but don't want more security to achieve that.

If I remember correctly...the Girls Gone Wild guys used to go around with a clipboard and would ask people to sign a waiver. If Im not mistaken, didnt they get their asses sued and the founder went to prison.

Dyan French is "Mama D" and yup she is the moron who testified that the federal government dynamited the levees in the Lower 9 and she saw it from her 7th Ward house on N. Dorgenois.

The crackhead son should have been swallowed by Dyan.
