22 year old man killed in hit and run

quote:

A 22-year-old man died sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on Monday in a hit-and-run accident on Buddy Ellis Road in Denham Springs.

Just after 7 a.m., someone notified the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office that a body was on the side of the road.

This means I would have had to pass by him on my way to work and never noticed.......
Feel bad.....
They just completed redoing that whole road. Wish they would have made it wider and included sidewalks, I see lots of people walking this road.

This post isn't going to help your defense when it comes out that you're the one that hit him.

Where is there a place to walk on Buddy Ellis? Especially in the early morning on a weekday?

That's the thing, there really isn't. I see people walking on it daily too. That's why it blows my mind that they didn't widen it even more and put sidewalks when they redid it.

Apparently he left work after 11pm and was riding his bike home

I’m just glad they fixed the drainage issues and it doesn’t flood anymore. It would have been impossible to get to my house with these recent storms we’ve been having. But once they build that retirement center and that new neighborhood, Buddy Ellis is going to be a mess. I wish they could have 4 lane it.

RIP to the victim. My wife drove past just after they found the body. I hope they catch the suspect soon

That is a scary road to drive on, even in the daytime, much less at night. No way would I walk it.

That means I drove by his body at around 5:00AM. And yes, I thought they would be widening the road when they were doing construction. But no.

It's bad that it happened. Unfortunately, LP is not good at maintaining its roads with paint/striping lanes and signs. Our street has speed limit and school signs barely driven into the ground and sit about 12 feet above the road surface amongst tree branches.

Money. Sidewalks cost about $40-$50 per foot in addition to having to buy additional right-of-way plus additional drainage costs. To put sidewalks on both sides of the street, you are probably looking at $750K to $1M per mile easily. Buddy Ellis is a parish owned road.

The driver was caught on someone’s camera so I’m sure it won’t be long until they’re caught or come forward.

Livingston has a ton of foot and bike traffic on roads that have not shoulder or sidewalk. I don't see how this doesn't happen more often. Theres a guy that rides on 447 all the time that will swerve out in front of you without a care in the world. Its just a matter of time before he gets smoked.

Someone's life is now ruined cause some idiot thought riding a dangerous highway on a bike at 11 at night was a good idea...
