(Did a search and did not get a result of previous posting.)
Summary:
Bayway bridge has an accident and traffic is at a standstill for an extended time. Man gets his dog out, on leash, to let him walk around. Dog leaps over edge, collar breaks. Man, after several minutes, jumps over and swims with dog to boat landing. Pretty cool story with video.

You know he’s got some serious scratches.

Yeah. Video starts with him struggling to find the best way to help/lead the dog. Can hear someone yell from the bridge to keep the dog off of him.

Maybe it's dumb but I certainly can't blame him
I'm not sitting up there watching my dog drown in front of me

What kind of dog is that? Chocolate lab possibly?

Yep. Hard call either way.

A wet one.
His name is "River" after all.

In the video it looked more champagne color to me. Maybe one of the Weimaraner/Lab mixes.

Damn. That’s a dangerous jump. Good bit of the bay there is really shallow. Like 18” shallow depending on the tide.

Yeah. I always heard it was shallow...I dont know much about it. I think the video or article said maybe a 20 foot jump into 6 feet of water at the time this happened.

I wonder how many of you asshats that would put your dog down by shooting them would do what this man did.

So Bloodworth decided to do it himself then had second thoughts. Like we said, let the vet euthanize it.

Zero chance I let my dog drown in front of me. I’m going in every fricking time.

Maybe so. Looks like his tail is docked.

I wouldn’t be a dickbag and abandon my vehicle on an already congested route

My wife looked at me and said she knew I would do the same.
But it would be a hard call being as I am completely unfamiliar with the bay and my thoughts would be what happens to my kids and wife if I am injured with the jump or worse.
He said he saw the landing and was confident in the swim so I think he went through a similar mental process as well.
Just glad it was not me needing to make the decision.

This is obviously the most important part of this story that we are all overlooking. And since all vehicles now only have room for one person in them, we know without a doubt there was no one left to drive the car if traffic began moving again before he returned.
