My first question is: "was your wife wearing a wedding ring?" If no, then he considered her fair game.
My second question is, "did your wife respond back to him that his text was inappropriate and "she is married and never to text back, again"?
If no, my third question is: "is she hedging her bets?"

my brother had an affair just under 10 years ago with a personal trainer at his country club in metro Atlanta

Thats the best part of these threads. Theres always a bunch of good info mixed in with the usual OT responses.
OP usually ignores the good advice at first and starts arguing with people basically trolling him.
