So you don't think it's probable that the man who has a history of beating up his wife and pregnant daughter and verbally menacing kids in the neighborhood was continuing to jaw and verbally harass the kid after he walked past his porch and continued walking? And yes, I am sure the kid was mouthy right back to him. That does not excuse the murder nor does it minimize it one iota. The murderer is 100% to blame for killing the kid.
I don't think anyone is saying the shooter isn't 100% responsible, at least I know I am not. I'm saying when the kid crossed the street he was not standing up for himself at that point.

While I doubt the kid was going to murder the Pulliam dude, let's not pretend this shooting fell out of the sky.

The old man is definitely a piece of crap. But so is the kid if he wanted to fight for bumping into somebody. Then he crossed the street to resume it. That is offense, not defense..
If he is so prone to wanting to fight, I am surprised he has not been shot earlier, given that it is a bad neighborhood.
