If I were to venture a guess, I'd say that most people without some sort of combat training (people who aren't police/military) would shy away from the situation. That includes a lot of the hardasses on this board.

His grandmother will say he didn't take his meds......that's the excuse criminals use now.

Like to think that Scruffy would at least throw something at the guy.

Honestly, the older I get, and the more out of control trashy I see this country getting the less I care. My tolerance is shite for degenerate bully frickers like that. Lord help me if I am ever terminal one day and see something like that. He's over.

he'll go to the front of the line

Another good reason to carry.

This article is another stark reminder that there are insane-arse people walking among us.

I've done it twice. I'd probably do it again. Both times I intervened once one party could no longer defend themselves and it appeared the other had no intent on stopping. A straight right upside that mf'ers head woulda stopped him. Nothing says you can't blindside that sonofabitch!

No, there's no law that says you're obligated to risk your own life breaking up a fight. There's no way I'd get involved in something like that if I had a family and kids, etc.
Being that I'm single with no children and have been a victim of violent crime myself, I probably would've done something. However, the bystanders shouldn't be judged because they didn't intervene; there's no way they could have known what the fight was about or if they guy may have had a weapon, etc.
ETA: OP, the link is broken.

Don't get me wrong. If you are carrying a concealed weapon, or if you have a physical advantage over the guy, then you should definitely intervene.
If someone with a CCP would have intervened and shot the guy, they most likely would have been charged with a crime. The perpetrator posed no direct threat to them and was unarmed.

I've broken up several fights. Once the guy obviously isn't fighting back, a shove and, "Aight he's had enough" ends it. The victor might bow up/talk shite, but another, "You won, it's over" and they'll walk away.

Problem is, this was not a dispute. It was an unprovoked attack where the assailant (allegedly) indicated that he wanted to kill someone today.
Not entirely like the scenario that you described.

The guy was obviously a lunatic. It's not your average drunken bar fight where you can just say, "hey, he's had enough" and leave it at that. The guy said he "felt like killing someone", that changes the game a little bit. Not to mention this happened at a train station, out of the blue.
Definitely not something you'd want to get involved in unless you knew 100% you'd be successful, it's wayyy too big of a risk.

It's Texas. What do you expect? They're not as courageous as the men and women in Mississippi.

Then I'd sneak his arse from the side and end it there.

This wasn't a fight, this was PREMEDITATED MURDER.
Posted on 7/9/14 at 12:45 am to JJ27
He's a pretty big guy, you'd better pray you knock his arse out. Either way, you'd definitely want to haul arse right after.

I wouldn't say it's premeditated, per se. Premeditation means planning the timing and method out, and making an attempt to avoid being seen, captured, etc. You can't really call committing a seemingly random murder, in front of a crowd, premeditated.
Seems to me like this guy is just a complete sociopath who lost his shite and went after the first guy that looked at him funny.

Honestly I wouldn't just sit there and watch someone be beaten to death. Maybe I'm just too stupid to calculate the risks.
