Had cop (from a Vette board) tell me it was just too expensive to auction off the cars they seized

"We just keep 'em. We come out better that way."

Yeah, no shite.

I am familiar with this NOPD policy and it is a horrible one I strongly disagree with. From what I understand if you don't have proof of ownership they seize the weapon and hold it until you can produce proof. This is very inconvenient for the gun owner and a violation of the 2nd amendment. With that being said I still don't believe this ties into the earlier statement that asset forfeiture is a revenue generating business that encourages no knock warrants. NOPD does not sell those weapons.

Well, they lost that lawsuit.

Had to give 'me all back.

At least the ones that weren't "lost".

Then they taking pictures with all the loot like fishermen do with their fish....not very professional.

I think the sheriff in Terrebone was doing the same with foreiture.

I vaguely remember this. From what I recall the national attention stopped that corrupt department from that practice. Louisiana was pretty famous for slavery but we don't do that anymore either.

Sorry, I quoted before you were done.

We are in agreement here, but it still ties back to basic theft.

They already do

Of course, which is why I said "more of." If the feds are getting the assets, they'll supply grants to State and Local PD, and pull more strings.

LINK

quote:

These conclusions suggest that federal dollars for local policing have more to do with control via “accountability” than crime reduction. The new Administration included one billion dollars in the stimulus package to hire 7,000 new officers in 2009 and 2010. In April 2009, the House pledged an additional $1.8 billion over the next five years to provide 50,000 federally paid local officers. In June 2010, the President warned federal lawmakers that without further stimulus funds, police layoffs would be inevitable. In other words, over time the federal government will be paying the cost of tens of thousands of police officers nationwide. These numbers reflect a growing dependency on federal dollars for local law enforcement needs, something that then Senator Biden wanted to make permanent.

I'll bet a lot of folks support more federal involvement in State and Local LE though. I'd be a little worried about increased funding of local PD's by the feds to do their bidding.

I just grabbed the first one.

There are many that talk about Sulphur's asset forfeiture abuse.

TBH, I don't know if they are still doing it or are just more carful now.

I was trying to refrain from commenting but these articles really upset me. It's unbelievable cops can kill people and just make up a reason to justify the killings.

But, thanks to my careful readings of Dan's posts, I have no reason to be upset by most of these horrible stories, because I don't live in those states!

So, I guess...um, frick those guys who were killed? Move along, nothing to see here.

On December 4, 1999, police in El Dorado, Arkansas conduct a drug raid on the home of Dovie Walker. Officers tear the front door from its hinges with a battering ram, damage another door to her bedroom, break a latch on a third door, overturn and dismantle her furniture, and generally "demolish" her house. They also handcuff her three children on the floor at gunpoint. Officers then realize they have mistaken Walker's house for the house next door. At the time Walker is also babysitting children ages one, two, and three. After a police department spokesman tells one media outlet police have no intention of paying for the repairs, El Dorado's mayor promises four days later to begin work on the damage Walker's house as soon as possible.

At 7:40 P.M., North Little Rock SWAT executed a no-knock raid on the home of Tracy Ingle. Ingle reached for his legally-owned although inoperative pistol to defend himself until he realized the "intruders" were, in fact, police. He dropped the weapon on the ground. Ingle was shot five times by the officers and incarcerated for four days after released from the hospital. No drugs or drug residue were found on the premises, but he was charged with assault

My friend had the U.S. Marshals smash down her door early one a.m. and put everyone on the floor at gunpoint. The guy they were looking for was the previous tenant.

Mistakes happen, but no one apologized at the scene or explained to her what happened. She only learned about the mistake when she called around about it.

ops are out of control. In particular the "wanna-be" special forces operators who consider themselves SWAT teams that need to shoot innocent people, flash-bang babies, and do things like print PUNSIHER logos on their "tactical gear". Yes, a town of 3k people needs an MRAP, two snipers, and artillery. I'm sure Ms. Johnson's call about the neighborhood kids running through her garden was actually AlQaeda planning a nuclear attack. Good thing HS dropout 1 and 2 went and shot at trees in the woods last weekend and have cool black tactical gear!

I believe you should heed your own advice. Nobody knows who you are here, you are not an LSU fan, and you are a newb poster. Sometimes it is better to sit in the corner and be quiet little boy.

Perhaps I should have said I imagine instead of providing assurances. You will not find true anarchy in any state but New Hampshire might be close to what you are looking for.

so it's either anarchy, or let thugPOS psychopaths commit criminal acts...just because they have a badge?

I knew your logic was thinner than a puddle on a men's room floor, but wow.
