I’d spend my time on beaches for jewelry rather than a river.

I thought this was a bridge jumper suicide thread

I used to do this regularly in my 20's & 30's as an active-duty diver in the Navy. I've never paid for golf balls and my home is filled with found relics.

Lots of cool things down there that people lose or abandon. The best part of this activity is having freezers full of seafood for freeeeeeeee.

Megalodons were swimming in rivers? Or were they transported there by currents?

I find them in tidal rivers. Specifically the Cooper River upstream from Charleston, SC. However, I'm not sure there was a river there in prehistoric times.
On the same note, you can find hand tools made by pre-Clovis peoples 10 miles out at sea where rivers merged (people congregated there) prior to sea levels rising. ETA: A good location for this is the St. Marks, Wakulla, and Ecofina river convergence area off Florida's gulf coast.

I doubt my SO would part with them. She decorates with them and has them in glass cases in spare bedrooms.

Stage a robbery. I'll pay your deductible for one - well hypothetically because otherwise that'd be insurance fraud.
