Yep, they have been reducing the need for rescue breaths for years. Compressions are by far the most important part.

That was the story we were given in a PADI Rescue Diver Course but 45 years ago, I pulled a kid up out of the bottom of a pool, gave him mouth to mouth, and presumably he is alive today.
There were other anecdotal stories in the class. Whatever works to save a life is the best method.
