My guess is that the cohort was a relatively low-risk cohort as it was anyway. It would be interesting what the outcome of a study such as this would show in the American South where Preeclampsia is quite common - young mothers, obesity, terrible diet, lower socioeconomic groups and limited prenatal care. I trained at a large southern teaching institution which was responsible for indigent care over a large geographic area and preeclampsia was almost the norm. I don't see it near as much in my private practice.

Looked through the articles citing your study - looks like a follow-up case-control study destroyed the oral hypothesis. Interesting, though, that increased vaginal exposure to paternal semen significantly reduced preeclampsia.
