Lens.com is even cheaper than 1800contacts and will let you use old perscriptions.

BS... I just placed and order and then had to cancel. The prescription has to be up to date.

Why do lawyers bill every time they talk to you or do anything else? You think their building, facility, employees etc are free? Offer them $150 cash next time. People always want free shite. NOw a LAWYER asking for free shite? That's funny.

The mandatory thing to renew contacts might be a $$ burden on some. Maybe they feel their vision is just fine and just need new contacts. I mean really.

Your optometrist has to pay off those med school loans somehow.

People are being damn cheap in here.

$200 a year is a small price to pay to ensure that you aren't going to lose your most valuable sense.

I needed new eyeglass frames and they told me I needed to update my year and one-half old RX. Didn't need the lenses - just frames.

Also like I said, other countries don't require prescriptions for purchase, it's not like Brits are all running around with eye infections.

I haven't read through...but seriously. Look at their teeth. You really want to make them your standard for eye care??

Eyes are no joke. They are the only ones you will have for the rest of your life. Don't cheap out on them. Wearing contacts already puts your eyes at risk for problems. Don't scrimp on the annual exam. You can go to Sams and do it for about $80, plus they have huge rebates on their contacts. Lifelong contact wearers should probably actually be seeing an opthomologist on the regular, but at least don't cut out the yearly eye exam.

Every other prescription requires the people to show up at least annually. Some scrips require monthly checkups. Feel lucky you don't have to do that and take care of your fricking eyes. Don't be a douchebag and blame it on "the law" forcing you to do this. It is like every other prescription and like every other medical device prescribed--there are risks and you should get that shite checked out.

I took care of a child that broke her glasses. Mom takes her to get new glasses...she has to get eye exam first.

Eye exam shows something weird on it. Eye doctor tells mom she needs to get this further looked into. Little girl actually has a brain tumor! No other symptoms present. And the only way they found out so soon(which could likely help save her life)....cause she broke her glasses and had to get an exam to get new ones.

I see just fine with my current contacts, all I need is another couple of boxes of the exact same lenses. Why do I have to spend the unnecessary time and money to get a new Rx?

So buy your own equipment and refract yourself. For glasses, trial frames and a complete set of trial lenses can be had for < $300 on eBay. Good quality, too. Contacts shouldn't be much harder.

That is crazy and awesome all at the same time! Glad it worked out so well for her and hope that her good luck continues through her treatment!!

I realized after posting that this thread was old and bumped...but seriously. I was a bad example of contact use for years...had them at 11 and used them as advised until the weekly wear ones came out in the 90's or so. By then I was in college and it was easy to wear them for too long. I never had problems that I noticed, and because I was buying a years supply and not using them at that rate, it went undetected. But I definitely was damaging my eyes and I ended up having to go off contacts and back to glasses for a considerable length of time to allow my eyes to heal. It SUCKED. And it is too easy to avoid.

Call the eye doc, ask for your prescription. Go to 1-800 contacts.

Or go to the eye doc and help him pay for his expensive college.

Oh... That's make it right.

Every other rx needs an annual checkup so why not make everybody get an eye exam annually.

No different from a Vet requiring Heartworm test annually before purchasing meds.

I have done this for a few years now because I am too lazy to go back to the eye doctor. They have the same brands that were originally prescribed to me by the eye doctor years ago. The site I ordered from is Lensplanet.co.uk.

Dude. You are a lifesaver! I was just thinking how I was running low and didn't have time to go to the eye doctor and my prescription just expired. Just ordered some from this place to hold me over.

My brother in law's brother is an eye surgeon. I went to him last time I needed my annual eye exam, one because he's family, two because he's much closer to where I work downtown than my old place, and three because I was tired of the in and out buy new glasses routine where the doctor spent maybe 5-10 minutes with you and on to the next one. It wasn't that way 7-8 years ago when I started going to her, but they moved their office from a strip mall to this nice new fancy building, and started selling $600 designer frames and it just got to be too much.

He's with a good group that does a lot of the Lasik surgery around here, but his specialty isn't that. He took about 30 minutes doing the eye exam himself, not having the tech do all of the work up stuff. He also found a couple of things in my right eye that were rare and he said could be cause for concern one day. Even brought in his boss to check it out, since he said they don't see it very often. It is some form of a cornea problem. I'll never go cheap on my eyes after that. An eye exam can usually be done in under an hour.
